Florida International is set to open their football season after finishing 5-7 in 2008. They will have to rely on WR T.Y. Hilton’s shoulders if they want to do better than last year fifth place in the Sun Belt. Hilton, finished with 12 touchdowns overall and had a team high 41 catches and his 1,013 receiving yards were a single season school record.

Alabama could have trouble trying to slow down Hilton but Florida International will probable face the same problems against a number of playmakers on the Tide’s high powered offense. “They are big, physical, strong and a very well-coached football team,” Golden Panthers’ coach Mario Cristobal said.

The numbers also will tell who the big favorite is. Alabama and Florida International have only met once in a 38-3 Alabama win in 2006 and this will be Florida International’s fifth game against a ranked opponent after being outscored 172-22 in the previous four.
