Australia Overcome Germany To Claim World Cup

Australia has won the hockey World Cup after two decades by defeating defending champion Germany 2-1. During the last two encounters between the two sides, Australia was beaten by Germany in the final of the two World Cups in 2002 and ‘06.
Edward Ockenden was the first to score during the first half consequently Australia was in lead. Germany equalized in the 46th through Moritz Furste.
The last and the final goal of the match and tournament was scored by Luke Doerner converted a penalty corner in the 59th minute.
Earlier, the Netherlands defeated England 4-3 to claim the bronze medal.
