Car Bomb In Iraq, 2 killed

BAGHDAD: An Iraqi police official says a bomb-rigged car exploded near a convoy of a top security officer in western Iraq and left at least two people dead.

The official says the apparent target of the Monday blast, police Col. Saad al-Shimari, was not injured, but two of his guards were killed. At least seven people are injured.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to media.

Al-Shimari heads police operations near Fallujah, a former insurgent stronghold west of Baghdad. He has survived several previous assassination attempts.
