Larry Pearson Injured Badly In NASCAR legends Race

A frightening crash in a “legends” race for retired NASCAR drivers resulted in two famous names from stock car racing’s past – Larry Pearson and Charlie Glotzbach – being transported to an area hospital Saturday.

Two drivers taking part in an exhibition race among NASCAR legends at Bristol Motor Speedway were injured in a violent wreck and transported to a local hospital Saturday afternoon.

Larry Pearson’s family confirmed through track officials that the driver had a compound fracture of his left ankle, a fractured pelvis and a fractured right hand. He was to have surgery late Saturday.

Pearson’s father, David, also was in the race. He stopped racing after the ambulance left so that he could travel to the hospital.

The legends race was not a NASCAR-sanctioned event.

Shankar Mahadevan beats Shaan on ‘Music Ka Maha Muqqabla’

Mumbai, March 21 :

Shaan too gave his best shot to the show and gave tough competition to Shankar with his team “Shaan’s Strikers” that included Harshit Saxena, Anweshaa Dutta Gupta, Debojit Saha and Shadab Faridi.

It was an enthralling finale to STAR Plus’ “Music Ka Maha Muqabbla”, as popular composer-singer Shankar Mahadevan pipped playback singer Shaan in the mega reality show here Saturday night.

Shankar’s team “Shankar’s Rockstars”, comprising singers Rahul Vaidya, Sharib Sabri, Sanjeev Kumar and Neetii Muhan, rocked the stage with peppy numbers and won the show by three points.

They took home a cash prize of Rs.50 lakh (Rs.5 million) presented by sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.

After the victory, Shankar told IANS: “I used to meet with my team members now and then but I never thought that we will make such a wonderful team. Our main motive was entertainment, but along with that we tried giving some message which thankfully reached to the people. I haven’t decided what to do with the prize money. Now we will party and hopefully go on a tour.”

However, even with a lot of votes, he fell woefully short.

Popular numbers, a lively audience, energetic dancers – the show was a melange of it all.

“Music Ka Maha Muqqabla”, which has been on air since 13 weeks, had Mika, Himesh Reshimyya, Mohit Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal in the race earlier.

Iceland Volcano Eruption After 200 Years Eyjafjallajokull Volcano Has Erupted

Iceland Volcano Eruption : Eyjafjallajökull Volcano Eruption News Update — After 200 years of being dormant, the volcano named Eyjafjallajökull Volcano in Iceland has erupted. Eruptions is reportedly occured around midnight, Iceland’s local time, this March 21, 2010.

The ereption is located in Fimmvörduhals, a passager between two glacers, Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. A popular walking path goes through the area, from Skógafoss in the south to Thórsmörk. Everty summer hvdereds, and perhaps thousands, walk through the area.

As the sleeping volcano woke up after almost 200 years after 1821, people saw a sudden flash of light in the night sky at around midnight. As they said, the scene was scary yet astonishing for the residents who witnessed it unexpectedly.

The air carrier Icelandair has diverted flights which were destined for Iceland as a precaution, due to the risks to aircraft of flying into volcanic ash. A notice to airlines prohibits flights within 120 nautical miles of the volcano.

Apparently a column of smoke could be seen up to 1 km high leading to international flights to the island being diverted and other flights canceled, because of possible interference with navigation. The volcano had not erupted since 1821 but has been regularly monitored by scientists in Iceland. However it seems they had little warning of the eruption when it occurred.

LA Marathon Road Closures with 25000 People on Streets

With the sold-out L.A. Marathon–that’s 25,000 people–on its new, yet popular, Stadium to Sea route, street closures will be aplenty this Sunday. The race moves mainly through Los Angeles, but it will also affect streets in West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.

Downtowners interested in checking out the race no longer get to roll out of bed just in time for the finish, but the scenes of runners and wheelchair racers are worth getting up early.

“I’ve had more than one elected official tell me that he hasn’t seen the greater Los Angeles region cooperate like this on anything since the 1984 Olympics,” added Marathon President Russ Pillar.

Photojournalist Margaret Moth has died of Cancer

Despite battling a terminal disease for the last three years of her life, Moth, who was born Margaret Wilson but changed her last name to Moth because she loved parachuting from planes, knew she had lived her life to the fullest. She said: “I don’t know anyone who’s enjoyed life more.”

New Zealand-born internationally renowned CNN photojournalist Margaret Moth has died of cancer at the age of 59.

Moth was born in Gisborne, New Zealand. She was born Margaret Wilson and reportedly changed her name because she loved parachuting from Tiger Moth airplanes.

She came up with consequent blood transfusion, but she struggled more than three years with colon cancer that causes to end her tremendous life journey.

Factory Five

Factory Five Racing, the kit car company based in Wareham, Mass., last week won a lawsuit brought by Carroll Shelby, according to President David Smith. It was Shelby who in the early 1960s successfully put together an AC car body from Britain with a Ford V-8 engine to create the legendary AC Cobra sports car.

It is one of the most duplicated of cars and Factory Five has been producing a kit version of it for years. Shelby sued Factory Five back in 2000 and the result was a mixed bag.

Under a ruling in 2001, Factory Five was allowed to continue producing the car in the shape of Shelby’s Cobra, but could not use the Cobra name. It called its kit cars the Mark 3 and Mark 4 Roadster.

Shelby subsequently sued two years ago claiming Factory Five’s Type 65 Coupe kit car bore “designs confusingly similar to the Daytona Coupe Trade Dress.”

However, Smith said the U.S. District Court ruled in Factory Five’s favor based on the prior finding that it could not be sued for trade dress, or the shape of the car.

“The motion to dismiss was approved,” Smith said from Wareham. “(Shelby) had no right to sue for shape.”
