Sunsilk Fashion Week 2010

Sunsilk Fashion Week 2010The inspiration behind this collection comes for the art of Pakistan’s pre-eminent artist Saeed Akhtar. His latest work centers around tribal women, who he has given the most captivating aura in his paintings…I was able to design a whole collection based on their strangely beautiful faces and the energy in their form and movement. Quite simply, I can vividly imagine these gazelle like females gliding across the desert or reclining on the branch of a tree wearing one of the outfits from Élans PFW collection and being one with their surroundings. The collection is what I absorbed from his paintings primarily and then built upon by researching sub-continental tribal and desert landscape and culture.”

Khadijah Shah’s bring her brand Élan to fashion week with a complete collection of both Eastern Prêt a Porter and Haute Couture inspired by the artist Saeed Akhtar and his latest works. The Élan collection colour palette consists of olives, ochre’s, burgundies, crimson, deep hues of pink, burnt oranges and the essential black and gold. Indeed to the designer, these colours represent those of the sand, trees, sun, the evening desert sky and the colours in which tribal women are most often found. Expect ethnic embellishment with an emphasis on glass, maroori, zardozi and sitara work and fabrics including hand loom silks and chiffons.

Élan is a relatively young fashion label having been launched six years ago by Khadijah Shah. She is respected for her combination of intricate embellishments, flattering silhouettes and attention to detail in the construction of each outfit. Indeed each collection is conceived with glamour, elegance and versatility in mind. Khadijah Shah inherited her design aesthetic from her mother Aneela Shah, who had a small atelier and a loyal clientele for years before Élan was formerly launched. In a short span of six years, Khadijah has formalised and expanded this atelier and created an effective and influential place for her label in the Fashion Industry.

McQueen’s Collection Dazzles Paris One Last Time

McQueen’s Collection Dazzles Paris One Last TimeBehind closed windows in this grand Paris townhouse Alexander McQueen came back to life one more time. For fifteen minutes, a select number of guests viewed the collection that Alexander McQueen started but never lived to complete.
A true celebration of life, the collection revealed a feast of colours and textures celebrating his skill and passion for spectacle. Inspired by the Old Masters of painting, fabric was drawn back to reveal gold embroidery, a feather skirt or a glimpse of flesh.
Prints reflected the gory fantasies of Hieronymous Bosch, while long, floating gowns traced the soft sweetness of a Botticelli Venus.
Known as the rebel of fashion, McQueen shot to fame with provocative ideas such as low-cut “bumster” trousers, but his later work was dazzling and bewitching rather than shocking. The designer took his own life in February, reportedly inconsolable over the death of his mother earlier last month and with a history of depression. The inquest into his death has resumed.

Oscar reparations:Colorful Jewelry Captivates PublicIt’s no good having a style consultant to pick out all the best dresses and T-shirts if you haven’t got some amazing jewelry to complement them.
One place that is bound to dazzle us when it comes to jewels is the Oscars red carpet and by the sounds of things, it’s going to be a riot of color this year.
Forget plain gold necklaces and simple silver charms, as Lindsay Meyer from Building Communications told 3 News that bright, pretty hues are going to be making a real impact at the event.
“Color really makes a piece pop. It can really add to any outfit,” she said, noting that the likes of Diane Kruger, who wore Harry Winston to the Screen Actors Guild Awards recently, are already sporting the trend.
Ms Meyer predicted that blues and greens will be especially popular, so get hunting for some special sapphire jewels!
The 82nd Annual Academy Awards will take place on March 7th 2010.

Paris Mourns McQueen As Fashion Week Opens

Paris Mourns McQueen As Fashion Week OpensOne of the usual Paris highlights, Alexander McQueen’s show, has been taken from the official catwalk schedule and transformed into a subdued presentation following the designer’s death, but there will be plenty of other flamboyant events happening at and around Paris fashion week. While brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Hermès will be giving attendees an update on what’s new in French luxury, international designers including the Dutch Dries van Noten or Viktor & Rolf, British Gareth Pugh or Japanese label Comme des Garçons will present more forward-thinking fashion avantgarde. Designers to watch are the French capital’s rising star Damir Doma as well as former Dior Homme designer Nicolas Andreas Taralis, who now shows under his own name. Sonia Rykiel will have to prove that she didn’t forget how to do high fashion after her successful ranges for H&M, but while no one would seriously doubt that, Ungaro’s resurrection after last season’s Lindsay Lohan disaster is far more uncertain. It will also be interesting to see whether labels such as Balmain stick to their highly popular rock’n’roll chic instead of risking a new look, and if the ‘curvier model’ trend as seen in Italy (Prada) and London (Mark Fast) and an increased booking of Victoria’s Secret girls or high fashion colleagues like Lara Stone persist. Trade fair Première Classe will run concurrently to the fashion week, as will the edgier Tranoi, which for the first time features Tokyoeye, an initiative to promote Japanese brands in Paris. As for gossip, it has emerged on deadline.com that Zoolander writer Justin Theroux will be on site to “immerse himself on what is current in fashion” for the long-awaited sequel of the fashion parody. Also, French Vogue and luxe palace, Hôtel Crillon are collaborating for a meeting hub with low-calorie meals and a make-up pit stop, while party mogul Jean Roch is planning the launch of his VIP Room Theater – an expansion of his legendary nightclub, featuring an Italian trattoria, a café and a concept store – for March 5.
