Continuity in policies to ensure progress: Zardari
KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday said that the country would progress with continuity in policies and called for putting our work together on the policy of reconciliation.
“PPP has adopted the policy of reconciliation so that continuity in policies could be ensured as it is the only way of progress,” the President said while speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of Gems and Jewelry Training Centre.
He said that Pakistan is full of natural resources but there is lack of unity, shortage of policies and its continuity. He urged the businessmen, traders and media to play their role to concentrate on continuity in policies.
The Government will provide all possible facilities to the traders and industrialists in its available resources and urged them to come forward and supplement government efforts in this regard for progress of the country and benefit of the people, the President said.
The President said that the volume of current textile exports of the country was far below its potential. He said that India is not diamond and jewelry producing country but it imports its raw materials and after its value addition earns $12 billion from its exports.
He said the power policy of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had proved very successful as she had not only overcome the severe power shortage in the country, but later a time had come when the government was thinking to export power.
He regretted that the successive governments did not follow her power policy to meet future demand.
He said the present government started to work on a plan to get energy from exploiting the coal in Thar and it would continue such policies to meet energy requirements.
