Actress Isha Kopikar to exchange nuptial vows with her longtime beau Timmy Narang on Sunday.

The two got married at the ISKCON Temple in Juhu in a private ceremony that was attended by close family and friends. It was a traditional Maharashtrian style wedding that reportedly lasted for about four hours. Since the auspicious time scheduled for the wedding was 11am, it was a daytime wedding.

“I am very excited and I can’t wait to get married,” Narang, a restaurateur, told reporters before entering the temple.

33-year-old Isha wore a red and yellow sari while the groom was dressed in a cream sherwani.

An official from the temple is quoted as saying: “They brought their own priest and we just provided the hall and the food. They had a booking here from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.”

Susan Boyle’s album shoots straight to number 1

Susan Boyle’s album, Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle has made chart history after her debut album shot straight to number one in Britain, music officials said Sunday.

Boyle, who became a worldwide star after appearing on British reality television, has sold more than 410,000 copies of “I Dreamed A Dream” — the biggest first week sales for a debut album in British chart history. “I Dreamed A Dream” outsold the rest of the top five albums combined, including boyband JLS, Black Eyed Peas and Queen, while her cover of the Rolling Stones classic “Wild Horses” entered the singles charts in ninth place.

Boyle revealed a soaring voice behind her frumpy appearance when she appeared on the television show “Britain’s Got Talent” in April. Video of her singing “I Dreamed A Dream” from the musical “Les Miserables” on the show became a YouTube hit, with at least 100 million viewings. Although she came second to dance act Diversity in the competition, she won over fans worldwide. She initially struggled with her sudden rise to fame, and checked into a clinic suffering from exhaustion following the show.

Boyle also brushed aside suggestions last week that she was feeling the strain of worldwide attention after photographs in British tabloids appeared to show her crying and sucking her thumb at a promotional event in New York. Boyle, who has undergone an extensive makeover since becoming a star, has recently revealed that she was bullied at school and teachers failed to understand that she was a slow learner.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi markets plunge on debt woes

Stock markets in Dubai and neighboring Gulf emirate Abu Dhabi fell sharply on Monday and then ground to a halt amid a lack of buyers after Dubai World’s shock proposal to suspend debt payments.

Dubai’s benchmark DFM Index dropped by 7.30 percent as leading securities, including construction and finance, plunged almost by the maximum-allowed limit of 10 percent at the opening, which followed a four-day holiday.
The market was trading in the midday session at 1,940.36 points, down 152.80 points from Wednesday’s close, just before the Dubai government’s shock announcement it wants to freeze debt repayments by its mighty Dubai World conglomerate for at least six months.

The DFM Index finished trading on Wednesday at 2093.16, up around 28 percent this year, though still two-thirds below its all-time highs two years ago. The financial market of oil-rich Abu Dhabi also reacted negatively to Dubai’s debt woes, dropping 8.24 percent to 2,670.44 points in midday deals.

The two markets have so far shed around 10 billion dollars of their market capitalisation. Trading almost froze in both markets amid high offers to sell and negligible offers to buy, with Dubai market registering only 31.5 million dirhams (8.6 million dollars) in turnover — less than 10 percent of average daily trade this year. “This was expected because markets have panicked over exaggerated reports in the Western media,” Al-Fajr analyst Hamam al-Shamaa told. “We expect to see many foreign portfolios withdrawing from the market. Their exit obviously terrifies local investors,” he said, adding that the drop will continue on Tuesday. “I do not expect investors to enter the market. Tomorrow will most likely be a similar day,” he added, pointing out that the markets go into another four-day holiday starting Wednesday. But he expected local markets to bounce back after the holiday. “I expect good news during the holiday,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dubai World property unit Nakheel, builder of the iconic Palm Jumeirah artificial island, added to the gloom by asking on Monday to suspend trading of its sukuks, or Islamic bonds, listed on the Dubai-based NasdaqDubai exchange.

One of the key loans affected by Dubai World’s planned debt moratorium is a Nakheel issue of 3.5 billion dollars of Islamic bonds or sukuks, scheduled to mature on December 14. Securities listed by port operator DP World, part of Dubai World, on NasdaqDubai exchange dropped by 14.88 percent, and were the most active stock on the market, according to NasdaqDubai website Investors failed to draw reassurance from the UAE central bank’s announcement on Sunday that it was providing additional liquidity to the UAE banks.

Other Gulf stock markets have also been on holiday since Thursday for the Muslim feast of Eid al-Adha, sparing them an immediate impact from Dubai’s announcement. However, the news sent shock waves throughout other markets around the world on Thursday and Friday as investors feared a possible default by Dubai and its state-owned businesses, which together owe 80 billion dollars.

Asian shares rebounded on Monday, with Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index closing 3.25 percent higher at 21,821.5, recovering some ground after Friday’s tumble of nearly five percent.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi are the only Gulf stock markets open on Monday. Kuwait follows on Tuesday and Saudi Arabia’s financial market, the largest Arab bourse in capitalisation, will remain on holiday until Saturday. Dubai does not have big oil reserves, unlike Abu Dhabi which sits on around 95 percent of the UAE’s crude deposits and runs the world’s largest sovereign wealth fund valued by analysts at 400 to 500 billion dollars. Two Abu Dhabi-controlled banks subscribed to Dubai bonds worth five billion dollars in a deal announced a few hours before Dubai revealed its debt problems. But doubts have been growing about Abu Dhabi’s commitment to buoy Dubai, whose growth came to a screeching halt amid the global credit crunch before going into reverse gear. Property prices in the once-booming desert city have slumped by 50 percent from their peak.

Priyanka Chopra injures in an accident

MUMBAI : Priyanka Chopra seems to have a tendency to fall in trouble every time. The actress, who has been making rounds in and out of the hospital, met with a minor accident on the sets of her upcoming film ‘Anjaana Anjaani’. The actress, who is nursing a foot injury, has been advised complete bed rest for over a week.

Though the actress has sustained no serious injuries, sources maintain that she has been advised not to step her foot out of her room. Talking about the accident a source told a daily, “It was a minor accident and thankfully, with no major injuries to Priyanka. In Bangkok, Priyanka was required to do a scene in the ocean, where she unknowingly stepped on a pointed rock. As a result, she lost her grip and ended up getting bruised on her foot.”

“Director Siddharth Anand and the crew ran to her rescue, but luckily, nothing major had happened. The shoot wasn`t stalled. Priyanka just applied an ointment and was back on her feet for the shot. Ranbir Kapoor, reportedly, was not required for the scene and so wasn`t present. Priyanka is currently shooting in Pattaya, Thailand with the rest of the cast and crew,” the source added.

Nevertheless, this isn’t the first time that Priyanka has had an accident. In the past too, the stunner was hurt while doing stunts for ‘Drona’ and ‘Kaminey’.

‘New Moon’ retains grip on box office top

‘New Moon‘, The ‘Twilight‘ vampire romance sequel ‘New Moon’ remained firmly clamped down on the North American box office top spot for a second week, preliminary figures showed on Sunday.

The second big-screen installment adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s phenomenally successful books took in 42.5 million dollars over the weekend, according to figures from Exhibitor Relations.

That brought the movie’s two-week earnings to a whopping 230.7 million dollars after it raked in an astounding 142.8 million dollars in its first three days of release.

Only Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” with 158.4 million dollars and “Spider-Man 3″ with 151.1 million dollars have scored bigger openings.

The “New Moon” release weekend earnings were considered particularly impressive because the film was released in November, outside of the traditional summer blockbuster season.

The “Twilight” franchise follows the fortunes of high school teenager Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart, and her vampire lover Edward Cullen, played by British heart-throb Robert Pattinson.

Also showing staying power this week were “The Blind Side,” which hung on to the number two spot for a second week and “2012,” at number three for a second week.

“The Blind Side,” a feel-good film based on the real-life journey from rags to riches of Baltimore Ravens American football star Michael Oher, earned 40.1 million dollars in box office receipts.

“2012,” which makes ample use of special effects to illustrate the end of the world, brought in 18 million dollars in its third week in theatres.

In at number four was “Old Dogs,” a Disney movie starring John Travolta and Robin Williams, which took in 16.8 million dollars in its opening weekend.

“Disney’s A Christmas Carol” remained in fifth place for a second week, earning 16 million dollars in its fourth week in theatres, while “Ninja Assassin” took the number six spot, earning 13.1 million dollars.

Down three spots to number seven was “Planet 51,” the animated tale of an astronaut forced to take refuge with a young alien on a faraway planet, which earned 10.2 million dollars.

The acclaimed but harrowing “Precious” took the number eight spot with 7.09 million dollars, while Wes Anderson’s adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic “Fantastic Mr Fox” shot up from number 24 last week to earn the number nine spot with 7.02 million dollars.

Rounding out the top ten was satire “The Men Who Stare At Goats,” starring George Clooney and Jeff Bridges as members of a military unit schooled in psychological warfare. The film took 1.5 million dollars.
