Florida Supreme Court, The Florida Board of Bar Examiners releases the results of the July sitting of the bar examination Monday. The Florida Supreme Court is expected to approve the results and post them on its website imminently. The Florida bar exam results from the July 2009 sitting will remain on the Florida Supreme Court website for 30 days. The Florida Board of Bar Examiners and the Florida Supreme Court will not advise bar applicants by telephone whether or not they passed the bar exam.

The results posted online today will indicate only whether the applicant has passed or failed the bar examination, according to the Florida Board of Bar Examiners website. Test scores will be mailed to applicants.

Applicants who learn that they have passed the bar examination today in Florida have one more step ahead of them in becoming attorneys- the swearing in ceremony where they agree to uphold their responsibilities as officers of the Florida courts.

The role of the Florida Board of Bar Examiners with respect to bar admissions includes administering the bar examination and performing a character and fitness screening of each applicant before submitting the applicant’s name to the Florida Supreme Court.

While the successful Florida bar applicants are celebrating today, there will unfortunately be some would-be lawyers who receive the message that they failed the bar examination. Those applicants will be able to try taking the bar examination again in February.

For those who do have to take the Florida bar at the next sitting, the rules may be different. In the future, select applicants to the bar may be subject to a check of their social network profiles as part of the check into bar applicant character and fitness. The Florida Board of Bar Examiners considered and rejected an across-the-board submission of Facebook profiles as part of the admission process.
