Germany Beats New Zealand 5-2 To Make Hockey Semifinal
NEW DELHI INDIA: Two-time defending champion Germany reached the semifinals of the field hockey World Cup with a 5-2 victory over New Zealand on Tuesday.
Germany led 3-0 until New Zealand scored twice in three minutes with 16 minutes to go. But two penalty corner goals in the last seven minutes ensured Germany advanced with its biggest win over the Black Sticks at the World Cup.
Germany’s goals came through Christoph Menke (15th minute), Florin Fuchs (28th), Philip Witte (47th), Moritz Furste (63rd) and Matthias Witthaus (64th). New Zealand scored through Shea McAleese (51st) and Nicholas Wilson (54th).
The other semifinalist from Pool A will be decided between the Netherlands and South Korea.
