Three Supreme Court judges headed by Chief Justice heard the price of sugar case today.

Sugar Mills Association Chairman Sikandar Khan said rising prices of sugar on the world market and the decline in sugarcane production in Pakistan and the factors behind the sugar crisis in the country.

He said the government buying sugar mills in 36 rupees per kilogram, which is being sold on the market at Rs 70 kg.

Acting Attorney General in his arguments Khawar Shah said the government policy in the short and long term to resolve the sugar crisis.

Chief Justice in his speech at the hearing said the government should establish depots Serving low-income and rural areas to provide sugar at cheaper rates.
