Jasmine Lynn Spelman, Jasmine Lynn Spelman college student killed by stray bullet. Spelman College, Atlanta is mourning the death of one of its students Jasmine Lynn. She was killed by a stray bullet.
Spelman College is part of the largest consortium of historically Black institutions of higher learning in the world. Its four partner institutions include Clark Atlanta University, the Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College and Morehouse School of Medicine. Spelman shares cross-registration with its undergraduate partners. They also share the Robert W. Woodruff Library.
A historic campus of 39 acres, dating back to 1883, five minutes west of downtown Atlanta. There are 25 buildings, including Sisters Chapel, Giles Hall, Packard Hall, Rockefeller Hall and Reynolds Cottage. The Camille O. Hanks Cosby Academic Center was dedicated in 1996, and a new state-of-the-art Science Center houses classrooms and labs.
There are more than 2,100 students from 41 states and 15 foreign countries at the college.
College authorities in a statement on their website said, “I am very sorry to inform you of the death of a Spelman student, Jasmine Lynn C’2012. Words cannot express the sadness I feel about the tragic loss of Jasmine’s life, the result of senseless violence. Jasmine was an innocent bystander struck by gunfire early this morning in the vicinity of the CAU Commons”.
The statement further said, “On behalf of the entire Spelman College community, I want to express our deepest sympathy to Jasmine’s family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time of grief. The Spelman College flag will be flown at half-mast today in Jasmine’s honor. We will share information regarding funeral services as soon as it is available”.
