ISLAMABAD, Pakistan News: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday turned down an offer by Minister for Defence Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar to resign from the cabinet in protest of restricting him from visiting China last week.
Mukhtar was barred last week from visiting China in the last hours when he was leaving for an official tour to the country by FIA officials on the grounds that his name has been on exit control list. However, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) clarified later that his name was wrongly placed on ECL and there were no restrictions on his travel abroad.
Mukhtar complained President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani about the treatment of FIA officials with his staffers at Islamabad Airport and protested on the incident. The PM taking stern notice of the happening suspended Interior Secretary and three officials of Federal Investigation Agency besides ordering an investigation into the occurrence.
Mukhtar called on President Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr Monday and informed him about the incident at Islamabad Airport. He also offered his resignation from the cabinet in protest, an offer turned down by the President.
President Zardari expressed his confidence into Defence Minister and asked him to continue his services.
