Pakistan, Italy Vow to Fight Against Terrorism
ROME : Pakistan and Italy on Tuesday expressed firm resolve to foster lasting peace and stability in the region and continue fight against the menace of terrorism.
During the parleys held at Presidential palace, President Asif Ali Zardari and Italian counterpart Giorgio Napolitano exchanged views on matters of mutual interests and discussed issues of regional and international importance and situation in Afghanistan.
Later talking to the media persons, the Italian President said Pakistan has an important role to play in the region and democratic set up in the country should be lent complete support. The Italian leader wished success to the democratic dispensation in Pakistan.
He applauded the pivotal role played by President Zardari and the democratic government in fighting the militants adding, Rome fully supported the efforts of Pakistan in the fight against the menace of terrorism.
President Asif Ali Zardari told the newsmen he had an exchange of “useful and productive” views with his Italian counterpart Napolitano and both sides benefited from each other during the talks.
The president further said Pakistan faced enormous challenges with regard to war on terror but its resolve was greater to address these challenges. Pakistan, he stressed should be part of the solutions to the problem.
President Zardari further said Pakistan needed support in trade as well as enhanced access for Pakistani products in the European Union markets as Pakistan’s economy was seriously hit by the terrorism, which could be dangerous scourge for the entire globe.
Italian President is kind enough to support Pakistan on diverse fronts, Mr Zardari said adding, Rome was extending cooperation in promoting peace in that part of the region.
Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari was accorded ceremonial welcome at the presidential palace – Plalazoo Quininale. Escorted by Military advisor to Italian President General Mosca Moschini, President Zardari walked through uniformed ceremonial Guard at the presidency.
Pakistan is strategically and geographically located at an important position, the Italian leader stated adding, he had an opportunity to exchange views with President Zardari during the talks on matters of mutual interests, international scenario and Afghanistan.
President Asif Ali Zardari appreciated the role of Italy at the Friends of Democratic Pakistan (FoDP) forum which just concluded its first summit in New York.
President Zardari said Pakistan held high esteem for the great nation of Italy.
