Rollins lined a two-run double with two outs in the ninth off All-Star closer Jonathan Broxton and the Philadelphia Phillies rallied past the Los Angeles Dodgers night 5-4 Monday for a 3-1 lead in Series championship.
The reigning champions can win their second consecutive championship with a victory at home in Game 5 on Wednesday night. Cole Hamels, NLCS last year and MVP of the World Series, will take the mound for the Phillies. Clayton Kershaw or Vicente Padilla will begin to Los Angeles.
“This is big,” Rollins said. “The pressure is all on them.”
Trailing 4-3, the Phillies began their rally with one out in the ninth when pinch-hitter Matt Stairs walked on four pitches against Broxton. Stairs hit a two-run homer off Broxton in Game 4 of the ALCS last year at Dodger Stadium.
Broxton then click Carlos Ruiz with one step, but pinch-hitter Greg Dobbs hit a soft line to third for the second out.
Rollins, only 3 of 18 in the series to that point, then ripped a line of 99 mph on the center right and the ball rolled up to the wall. Andre Ethier throw line to the table was high and outside, and Ruiz slid home without a game.
Rollins said the air as he rounded second and was surrounded by his teammates at third base. Even Jamie Moyer, who just had surgery on his lower abdomen, limping and joined the celebration.
