Raza Rabbani Appointed As Prime Ministe Advisor
ISLAMABAD PAKISTAN : Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Thursday appointed seasoned politician and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) stalwart Senator Raza Rabbani as his advisor.
Rabbani is presently heading the Parliament’s Constitutional Reforms Committee, responsible for formulating the recommendations for Eighteenth Constitutional Amendment. He is likely to present CRC report before the Parliament prior to President Asif Ali Zardari’s address to the joint session of the two houses earlier next week, the channel added.
It was the second responsibility laid on the shoulders of PPP leader in the present government as he was earlier appointed Minister of State for Interprovincial Relations. He was also the Leader of the House in the Senate of Pakistan.
But, he resigned in March 2009 from his three positions – Minister of State, Leader of the House in the Senate and his position in the Central Committee of PPP – as a protest for reasons he said were communicated by him to his party. It was speculated that the protest was against several decisions by his party which were not on merit and principles of democracy.
Rabbani is one of the very few politicians who has been able to attain and sustain a high level of credibility in the eyes of public as well as among all the political parties. He is one politician who does not have any scandals associated with him; financial, moral, or political. He does not come from a feudal background, but earned his credibility as a competent lawyer and then as a principled based political leader.
