Smu Open House 2010, All Southern Methodist University campuses were closed all day Friday due to inclement weather conditions. However, university officials stressed that SMU will be open as usual this weekend for all scheduled activities, including recruiting visits by prospective students and their parents.
SMU Public Affairs said that essential personnel should report as usual and dining services are available in Umphrey-Lee and Mac’s Place, and Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports remains open. They stressed that people on campus should use caution when walking close to power lines and under trees. SMU is asking to report any critical campus damage to SMU Police at 8-3333.
Students awakened Thursday morning to find the campus covered in snow, but classes continued until the closing announcement was made at around 1:30 p.m.
A light snow grew heavier throughout the morning to the point where students could have snow ball fights and make snowmen. At least an inch of snow was on the ground by 9:30 a.m. and the weather forecast predicted that another 2 to 3 inches would fall by 3 p.m.
