nasa Space Station Gets New Room:NASAIn the second of three spacewalks planned during Endeavour’s mission, astronauts Robert Behnken and Nicholas Patrick worked to outfit Tranquility a new connecting hub to the International Space Station.
Among their tasks, the astronauts successfully connected two ammonia loops to Tranquility to install the module’s cooling system, according to NASA’s website. Tranquility, made in Italy, takes its name from the site where US astronauts first landed on the moon in 1969. As a second habitation module for the live-aboard station crew, Tranquility will house a toilet, oxygen generator, air scrubber and water recycling system. NASA says the 792-cubic-meter observatory will provide spectacular views of Earth and will allow station personnel to monitor spacewalks. Four more shuttle missions to the International Space Station are planned before the end of this year when the US shuttle fleet will be retired.
