Phillips’ representative, Steve Lefkowitz, last night issued a statement saying Phillips “is voluntarily admitting himself to an in-patient treatment facility to address his personal issues.”
Phillips previously had taken a leave of absence after details emerged of his relationship with Brooke Hundley, whom he met when the two were working at the All-Star Game in St. Louis.
Phillips, 46, had risen steadily on ESPN’s depth chart, joining Jon Miller and Joe Morgan in the game booth on Sunday nights. During his time as the Mets’ general manager, he admitted to extramarital affairs, at least one with a person on the team’s staff.
