Still No decision on local bodies

Lahore, Pakistan : The tenure of the local bodies has expired; however, the local governments will keep functioning till December 31 as President Asif Zardari hasn’t signed the summary yet, reported trendpk.com.

The Punjab Government says that the government officials will now perform the duties of the local bodies. Federal Ministry for Local Governments had moved the summary to the president on the wish of provinces in July before the four-year tenure of the local bodies expired. The summary stated that the administrators would be appointed as soon as the local bodies expired. The President, however, hasn’t signed the summary even after the expiry of the local bodies’ tenure.

The President House says that the authority of the Nazims will remain intact until the president doesn’t sing the summary. A delegation of the MQM had called on the president few days back after which it said that nazims would keep functioning till December 31. After this claim of the MQM, the meeting of Punjab Government’s representatives with the president was postponed.
