Strong winds associated with heavy rainfalls in northeastern US
Update News: Strong winds associated with heavy rainfalls have swept across much of the northeast in the US, leaving around half-a-million customers without electricity.
Wind gusts roaring with a speed of more than 80 km/h downed many trees and power transmission lines on Saturday as up to 12 cm of rain caused flash floods in the region, Xinhua reported.
According to US radio station, 1010wins, the storm has taken the lives of two people in Teaneck, New Jersey, where a state of emergency has been declared. The Two were killed after a tree trunk fell over them.
The storm also caused flight delays while halted trains.
A flood watch has been issued for most of the area through Sunday evening. The Northeast was hit hard by three major blizzards last month.
