Suicide Bomber in Baghdad, 13 killed

BAGHDAD: An Iraqi police official says a suicide bomber walking among Shiite pilgrims in northern Baghdad has detonated an explosives belt, killing at least 13 people.

The official says the bomber struck Monday as the pilgrims were walking through the Shiite neighborhood of Shaab. He says that about 21 people have been wounded.

A hospital official also confirmed the casualties.

Insurgents have routinely targeted pilgrims in Iraq.

This week, hundreds of thousands of Shiites are making the pilgrimage to Karbala to mark the end of 40 days of mourning.
