ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court bench on Wednesday will start hearing a petition by sugar mill owners’, challenging the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) decision to bring down prices to Rs 40 per kg.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will head the bench.
The sugar crisis has intensified across the country and the commodity is still not available at government-fixed prices.
According to a Aaj News, the Supreme Court has admitted for hearing a petition by sugar mill owners’, challenging the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) decision to bring down prices to Rs 40 per kg in early September.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said the mill owners could face contempt of court proceedings for going against the LHC decision.
