fiorina carly fiorinaAfter former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina clobbered her opponents in California’s Republican primary race for Senate Tuesday night, it didn’t take long for the fight to heat up between the newly-minted GOP nominee and Democratic incumbent Sen. Barbara Boxer.

As Fiorina took to the podium to address supporters when the primary race was called, the Senate hopeful used her acceptance speech as an opportunity to fire off a string of attacks against her Democratic opponent.

“In her 28 years as a career politician, Barbara Boxer is a bitter partisan who has said much but done little,” Fiorina said in accepting California’s Republican Senate nomination. “She gets an A in politics, but she gets an F in achievement.”

The former HP CEO went on to blast Boxer as being on “the very fringe of American politics” and embodying a “destructive elitism.”

As for Boxer, the California Democrat is also already mounting an aggressive strategy in taking on Fiorina in November. “Our supporters are energized and organized, and we are all looking forward to a vigorous campaign on the road to victory in November,” said Boxer campaign manager Rose Kapolczynski Tuesday night.

Boxer’s campaign has also installed a “Setting the Record Straight” feature on her campaign website to rebut attacks unleashed by Fiorina.

A new web video released by Boxer’s camp criticizes Fiorina’s leadership at the helm of Hewlett In California, Carly Fiorina won comfortably, which was as the pre-election polls had indicated. Fiorina took the lead on the strength of a late surge and advertising in the closing weeks, pulling away from what had been a tight race with Tom Campbell.

As she sets her sights on Barbara Boxer now, Fiorina will also of course look to consolidate the Republican base in the state – in usually-blue California, that’ll be especially important.

c1ca10237aawards ken jeongUNIVERSAL CITY, CA – While Ken Jeong, Scarlett Johansson and Sandra Bulluck were memorable for quite different reasons, they are the talk of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.

Jeong, who won “Best WTF Moment” for his jumping out of the trunk naked scene in The Hangover, started off being funny, but he soon became emotional during his acceptance speech as he talked about his wife, who has been cancer free for two years.

Overall, “The Hangover” snatched up two awards, Zach Galifianakis winning “Best Comedic Performance” for his role in the movie.

On the lighter – and definitely more sexual – side, Bullock and Johansson locked lips, much like Bullock and Meryl Streep did at an earlier Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. We are not sure if this is going to be a trend for Bullock, but it was definitely another suprising acceptance speech. The Hangover’s Ed Helms and Ken Jeong do a tribute to cinema. Ken Jeong’s outfit, or lack of, have me covering my eyes. I do enjoy Helm’s “Doug Song.” One of my favorite scenes from the Hangover. Less Grossman is back! Tom Cruise is quietly stealing the show with his ridiculous performance. Yesterday if you told me Tom Cruise and J-Lo performing a J-Lo and Ludacris mash up would be funny; I would have slapped your face.

Every commercial I see for Inception gets me more and more excited to see it

The award for Best Scared as Ish Performance should go to Copley for District 9 – instead it goes to Amanda Seyfried for Jennifer’s Body. WOW she’s skinny.

Harry Potter is back. People go nuts over this stuff. I’ve somehow only managed to half of one of those movies. One day I’ll purposely watch them all, but not sure when that’s going to happen.

I usually hate the award for Best Kiss but this year they added nice touch with the Kiss Cam. Reminds me of a Laker game. This award reminded me how much I hate the Celtics and The Proposal. Another Twilight victory in the books. The Twilight series has dominated the past few years and we have two more movies left.

525e2d70efwars5 whale warsPaul Watson, the head of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, and one of the stars of Animal Planet’s “Whale Wars,” has seen that firsthand.

“It’s made things a lot easier for us,” said Watson, aboard the MV Steve Irwin during a recent stop in New York. “What we do now is more recognized and more important, much more acceptable.”

Watson and his crews spend their time at sea disrupting the Japanese whaling industry through a variety of ways that have won as many fans as foes. The crews chase ships. They dangle ropes to jam the ships’ propellers, they get between the ships and the whales, they toss stink bombs, they spray water, and occasionally, there are collisions.

“Television allows for the acceptance of something that isn’t accepted normally,” Watson said. “People either love Sea Shepherd or they hate us.”

So far, the folks at Animal Planet are in the love category. The network will launch a third season June 4 at 9 p.m. The 12-episode series follows the Sea Shepherds’ whale defense campaign, Operation Waltzing Matilda.

“The issues surrounding whaling in the Southern Ocean are important and complex and ‘Whale Wars’ returns once again to capture them in all their intensity,” Animal Planet president Marjorie Kaplan said in a statement. “The majesty of these beautiful creatures and the lengths to which the Sea Shepherds will go in order to prevent whaling has made ‘Whale Wars’ entertaining yet vital television.”

Watson shrugged off criticism of his missions – the society has been called “ecoterrorists” – saying the only thing he’s concerned with is that no one gets hurt and they stay within the boundaries of the law.

In January, one of the organization’s ships, the Ady Gil, was cut in two by the Japanese ship Shonan Maru 2. The Ady Gil’s captain, Peter Bethune, was later arrested – and is still in jail – for confronting the captain of the Shonan Maru 2. Japanese officials dispute the account of what happened.

aaef590d19aptma Yarn Making Factories To Observe Countrywide Strike Today: APTMAAll Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) will observe a countrywide strike against restrictions on the export of cotton yarn.
“Strike will be successful and will continue till the acceptance of our demands,” said Punjab APTMA Chairman Ejaz Gohar.

Addressing a press conference, vice chairman APTMA Sheikh Muhammad Akbar claimed that although yarn producers have manufactured more yarn but government adopted restrictions on export of yarn at 35,000 tonnes per month from 50,000 tonnes. He added that the entire sector is now confronted with challenges and now they are left with no option except to close down their businesses.

On the other hand, Minister for Textile and Industry Rana Farooq Saeed Khan rejecting APTMA’s March 18 strike call announced that the government would not be blackmailed by any sector.“Yarn manufacturers are trying to get undue advantage of the yearn situation but the government will not be impressed by any threat,” he added.

He said the government had cut export quota of yarn to 35 million kilogrammes from 50 million kgs to save the local industry. The minister recalled that the government saved textile industry last year when it was on the verge of collapse. “We had provided uninterrupted supply of gas, electricity and reduced mark-up rate to promote the industry,” he claimed.
