Palestinians question US ability to forge peace

JERUSALEM: A top Palestinian official on Wednesday questioned Washington’s ability to forge Middle East peace after a new breakdown in American attempts to revive negotiations.

Yasser Abed Rabbo, a top aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, said the Palestinians were assessing their options before responding to the American announcement. While accusing the Israelis of being intransigent, he also voiced disappointment with the Americans.

According to details, today’s proceedings of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) witnessed panic when all of a sudden the security alarm started ringing in courtroom no 1, Geo news correspondent reported live from SC.

Subsequently, upon the directives of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, all lawyers, attendees and judges vacated the courtroom where the hearing of NAB appeal cases was in progress, he said.

CJ also directed the security officials to figure out reason of raising of security alarm; meanwhile, the search operation was conducted, correspondent added.

He wondered if elections could not be held in only two constituencies of Punjab, how could mid-term elections be held across the country.
Kaira said PPP has always supported verdicts of the judiciary. “Reaching deadlock in the system is out of question.” He said if a situation of confrontation arises in the country, all the institutions should work together to come out of it. The information minister said the government negotiated with militants everywhere including Swat but eradication of militancy takes time.

f4b8e56d8eied1 Rehman Malik Terms Indemnity Under NRO As ‘Justified’ISLAMABAD, Pakistan News: Federal Minister for Interior Affairs Rehman Malik, insisting on the justification of NRO, which sought withdrawal of cases against politicians, has said the cases withdrawn under NRO were justified and indemnity provided to politicians was need of the hour.

He said the NRO was an agreement among politicians, which aimed at provision of relief to politically victimized leaders.

This Malik stated in an interview with a US television channel and the participants of a huge mass gathering here in Islamabad.

He denied tendering his resignation over mere allegations, saying, I don’t deter political cases neither am I afraid of criticism and I possess strong

“A total of 8442 cases were withdrawn under the NRO and there were only 10 cases in which the accused belonged to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP),” Malik said after attending a march aimed at promoting sectarian harmony during Muharram-ul-Haraam.

The minister said that government respects the superior judiciary and will implement its verdicts in letter and spirit.

To a query he said that Pakistan is fighting the terror war for its own sake and will achieve success in its bid to root out militancy from its soil.

Hoti lauds resolve, bravery of Pakistan army

PESHAWAR, Pakisatn News: NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has appreciated the resolve, bravery and courage of the officers and jawans of Pakistan army and expressed the hope that their sacrifices for the elimination of terrorism will not go in waste.

ANP NWFP chief, Senator Afrasiab Khattak and provincial ministers Mian Iftikhar Hussain and Syed Aqil Shah accompanied the chief minister.

He inquired about the health of the jawans of Pakistan army injured in the war against terrorism and incidents of terrorism. He said that the whole nation is praying for their early recovery and success against terrorists.

The chief minister said that Pakistan army, people and government jointly would eliminate terrorists from the country. Those, who are creating instability in the country he said, are our joint enemies saying that Pakistan army will achieve success in this war of national salvation.

He inquired from each under treatment injured jawan in different wards of the hospital. He also distributed gifts amongst the patients. These patients were included jawans injured in the war against terrorism in Waziristan, Bajaur, Bara, Malakand, Bunnu, Buner and other parts of the province.

The chief minister paid rich tributes to the resolve, bravery and resolve of all jawans.

Ameer Haider Khan Hoti appreciated the hard-work and dutifulness of the staff of the hospital, saying that CMH is not only providing treatment to Pakistan army, but also to the people of Peshawar.

The people, he said looking it with respect and assured all possible cooperation in connections with bringing improvement in the hospital.
