China will stand by Pakistan thru thick and thin, assures Wen
Terming Pak-China friendship as evergreen, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao assured consistent support to combat the difficulties facing Pakistan, saying that both the countries will continue to stand by each other in future, trendpk.com reported Sunday.
Addressing the joint session of the Parliament, Jiabao said Pakistan gave emergency aid to China when it faced great earthquake in 2008.

The seventh anniversary of bilateral ties is about to come when the two countries will attempt to forge together constantly to help each other.Terrorism be not linked to a particular religion and dual standards should not be adopted in this connection, he said.On this occasion, Chinese PM pledged to give at least 500 scholarships to Pakistani students; China will conduct at least 2000 cataract operations. He said China will also offer 100 Pakistani people to opportunities to learn Chinese language. He also recalled a Pakistan saying, A good neighbor is Allahs blessing, and narrated a parallel China saying which says, Value your neighbor more than your relatives living far away.
Later, while addressing the parliament, PM Gilani thanked the Chineses PM for addressing the joint session, acknowledging the deep-rooted friendship between both the countries.
Pak-China friendship has been testified through years, and announced to celebrate 2011 as Pak-China Friendship Year. Out ties are very strong, the PM maintained.
Opposition Leader Chaudhry Nisar, while addressing, said that Wens address would lead to new vistas of Pak-China friendship. Its a historical day; Pakistan would always prove itself an all-weather friend to China.
The session commenced with the recitation of the holy signs from Glorious Quran. On this occasion, massive security arrangements were made avert any untoward incident.
Earlier, Chairman Senate Farooq H Naik received the honorable guest on his arrival at the House to address the joint session. A four-point agenda has been set for the session.Later on, Speaker National Assembly Dr Fahmida Mirza, who is currently presiding the joint session, presented the reception speech in honor of the Chinese Premier. FAISALABAD: Frustrated people irked by extended and unscheduled power cuts staged a protest in Faisalabad on Thursday.
Up to ten hours of electricity loadshedding is being observed by the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) from the start of Ramadan.
Protestors complained that loadshedding is being carried out during Sehri and Iftari as well.
Later, they set tires on fire and blocked the road.
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, in his address to the nation, has directed the Pakistan Electric Supply Company (PEPCO) not to carry out loadshedding during Sehri and Iftari throughout the month. SAMAA
PM defends Jamshed Dasti
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said he would talk Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif about manhandling of PPP MNA from Muzaffargarh Jamshed Dasti by police.
Earlier, PPP MNA Noor Alam while presenting point of objection in National Assembly said police raided house of Jamshed Dasti in Muzaffargarh and manhandled his mother. Chief whip of PML-N Shaikh Aftab expressed regret over it. Prime Minister in his address said the issue relating Jamshed Dasti has been taken up by the National Assembly speaker.

Altaf sees attempts to undermine coalition in Sindh
LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain Saturday said attempts are being made to disrupt the reconciliatory atmosphere of Sindh, urging the President and Prime Minister to take note of the statements being issued by PPP leaders.
Altaf Hussain, during his address at the meeting of MQM Rabitta Committee, reacted strongly to Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani’s statement made in Hyderabad.
“Such an announcement made without consulting MQM is heart-breaking,” he protested, asking Hyderabad citizens not to feel alone.
He said MQM never spoke for Karachi province but PPP ministers are spreading confusion. They are against PPP-MQM coalition, he added.

Indian President Pratibha Patil has said that India is ready for ‘meaningful’ talks with Pakistan, however urged the latter to seriously addresses terrorism issue.
In her address marking the beginning of the budget session of Parliament, Patil said: “India is ready to explore a meaningful relationship with Pakistan if Pakistan seriously addresses the threat of terrorism and takes effective steps to prevent terrorist activities against India.” She termed the Maoist rebels as biggest threat for the internal security, however, she offered the rebels to lay arms and initiate dialogue. She warned that cross border terrorism in the held Kashmir valley could harm her country greatly. It merits to mention that Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and her Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir are scheduled to meet on Feb 25.

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had announced a package of Rupees 2 billion for Sindh, whereas members of Sindh assembly demanded to stop the construction of power plant on Chashma Jehlum Link Canal.
PM had reached Karachi on a short visit yesterday. He met the leaders, office-bearers and senior workers of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) from Sindh at the Chief Minister House on Sunday.
Workers of Pakistan Peoples Party and members of assembly opposed the construction of power plant on Chashma Jehlum Link Canal saying that it would create a shortage of water in Sindh and leave their green land barren.
PM in his address said that a bunch of people wanted to create a misunderstanding in the party. The Prime Minister assured that the problems would be looked into and steps would be taken for their resolution.
