Affaq Ahmed acquitted in arms case

KARACHI: A local court in Central Prison’s Judicial Complex Wednesday acquitted Chairman Muhajir Qaumi Movement Affaq Ahmed on production of insufficient evidence.

The case against Affaq Ahmed was registered in August 2004 in the light of the statement of then arrested Muhajir Qaumi Movement’s member Aftab Ahmed alias Uffu.

Aftab Ahmed after his arrest had, allegedly, taken police along with him to a house number 861 located in Landhi Area from where a box full of arms was recovered. The box contained in it two hand grenades, 11 kalashnikovs, SMG rifles and a large number of bullets.

Aftab Ahmed in his statement given to police said the Chairman Muhajir Qaumi Movement Affaq Ahmed handed over the above arms to the latter for hiding and use when required.

Aftab Ahmed was later released on bail and then he went in hiding and he is still at large.

Today the court acquitted Affaq Ahmed on having insufficient evidence.

6 Accused in Murtaza Bhutto murder case acquitted

KARACHI, Pakistan News : A local court on Friday acquitted six accused in leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto), Mir Murtaza Bhutto murder case on Friday.

The accused included Mazhar Memon, Asghar Ali, Asif Ali Jatoi, Mehmood Bhallai, Ghulam Mustafa Chandio and Akhter Ali Mirani.

Mir Murtaza Bhutto, brother of former premier Benazir Bhutto, was killed in an alleged police encounter.

In September 1996, according to police, Mir Murtaza Bhutto and his companions were stopped near his residence in Clifton, Karachi. He was gunned down along with his eight party workers.

In this regard, Clifton police had registered a case in which the shootout was declared a police encounter.

The judgment in the case was reserved by Sessions Court-East judge Aftab Ahmed Khan after arguments concluded last week following years of hearing.

The accused are alleged to have opened fire on the police party stationed near 70-Clifton, which was supposed to inspect Bhutto’s convoy, on September 20, 1996. Bhutto along with many of his companions was killed in the mysterious shootout later in the evening.

c63878e44bbhutto Court Acquits Six Fellows of Murtaza BhuttoKARACHI, News Trends : A local court on Friday acquitted six companions of slain leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto), Mir Murtaza Bhutto, of 13-year-old police encounter case.

The accused were included Dr Mazhar Memon, Ghulam Mustafa, Asghar Ali, Asif Jataoi, Akhtar Mirani and Mehmood Halai.

Talking to media after the announcement of the verdict, Dr Memon – one of the accused, said that he and his fellows were waiting for the verdict to prove their innocence since last 13 years. He said all the accused were falsely charged in the case and the court has given them the justice.

The judgment in the case was reserved by Sessions Court-East judge Aftab Ahmed Khan after arguments concluded last week following years of hearing.

October 7, the Balochistan High Court ordered the registration of a case against Musharraf, former premier Shaukat Aziz, former interior minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao, former Balochistan chief minister Jam Yousuf. The police had registered the FIR on the complaint of the deceased’s son Jamil Akbar Bugti.

a10a6557bci case Musharraf Summoned By Balochistan HC On Bugti CaseQUETTA: Balochistan High Court has summoned former President General (r) Pervez Musharraf along with a number of key officials of his regime in the next hearing of Nawab Akbar Bugti murder case set for October 7.

A divisional bench of BHC comprises of Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Essa and Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mengal issued the summons to ex-government’s officials on Friday while hearing a petition filed by Jamil Akbar Bugti for the registration of the FIR in murder of his father and former Governor and Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Akbar Bugti.

Those who were summoned by the court on October 7 include former President General (r) Pervez Musharraf, former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, ex-federal interior minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, former Governor Balochistan Owais Ahmed Ghani, former Chief Minister Balochistan Jaam Yousuf and former provincial minister for interior Shoaib Nosherwani.
