Iran Confirms Osama Bin Laden Daughter at Saudi Embassy

TEHRAN: Iran is confirming a daughter of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is at the Saudi Embassy in Tehran, but says it doesn’t know how she entered the country.

A Saudi newspaper reported Wednesday that the 17-year-old, Eman, went to the embassy seeking refuge after eluding guards who have held her, her sister and four brothers under house arrest for eight years.

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on a TV talk show that Iran had no idea she was in the country until it heard from the embassy.

Mottaki said if authorities are able to confirm her identity she would be free to leave Iran.

It has long been believed that Iran has held a number of bin Laden’s children since they fled Afghanistan after the 2001 U.S.-led invasion.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed shifted from Gitmo

WASHINGTON: Latest news about Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, President Barack Obama said the September 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other Guantanamo Bay detainees will be put on trial in New York City.

Speaking in Tokyo, Mr. Obama said Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the self-proclaimed organiser of the al-Qaeda terrorist plot that killed almost 3,000 people in 2001, would face “exacting” US justice.

Bringing such notorious suspects to US soil to face trial would be a key step in Mr. Obama’s plan to close the US detention centre at Guantanamo Bay.

Mr. Obama initially planned to close the centre at the US naval base on Cuba by Jan 22 next year, but his administration is no longer expected to meet that deadline.

It is also a major legal and political test of Mr. Obama’s overall approach to terrorism. If the case suffers legal setbacks, the administration will face second-guessing from those who never wanted it in a civilian courtroom.

The New York case may force the court system to confront a host of difficult legal issues surrounding counter-terrorism programmes begun after the 2001 attacks, including the harsh interrogation techniques once used on some of the suspects while in CIA custody. The most severe method – waterboarding, or simulated drowning – was used on Mohammed 183 times in 2003, before the practice was banned.

The US attorney general Eric Holder is due to annonce that a major suspect in the bombing of the USS Cole, Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, will face justice before a military commission, as will a handful of other detainees to be identified at the same announcement, an official said.

The transfer of the detainees from Guantanamo to New York is not expected to happen for many more weeks because formal charges have not been filed against most of them.

FIR Lodged Against Musharraf for Bugti’s murder

Lahore, Pakistan :- FIR Lodged Against former president Musharraf for Bugti’s murder, Dera Bugti police on Tuesday has registered a FIR against former President Pervez Musharraf for the murder of Nawab Akbar Bugti, a private TV reported.

October 7, the Balochistan High Court ordered the registration of a case against Musharraf, former premier Shaukat Aziz, former interior minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao, former Balochistan chief minister Jam Yousuf. The police had registered the FIR on the complaint of the deceased’s son Jamil Akbar Bugti.

America is on sale. The Great Recession has caused massive job losses and hardship for millions, but it has also fostered a shoppers’ paradise. Anyone who still has the means to spend can find unheard of deals.

Prices for everything like clothes to coffee to cat food are dropping, some faster than they have in half a century. Items rarely discounted — like Tiffany engagements rings — are now. The two biggest purchases most people make — homes and new cars — are selling at steep price reductions.

What’s happening now has been building for years. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. introduced “every-day low prices” many years ago. Amazon.com redefined the idea of bargain prices during the late 1990s when it helped introduce online shopping. After the 2001 recession, automakers introduced zero-percent financing to boost sales. McDonald’s “Dollar Meals” made fast food even cheaper. But until the Great Recession came along, consumers hadn’t seen anything yet.
Hotel rooms cost travelers nearly 20% less, on average, than last year, the biggest decline since Smith Travel Research began collecting data in 1987. Home prices have dropped 30%, on average, from the peak in 2006. In some markets, they’re down more than 50%. Homes in parts of Detroit are cheaper than a new car.

Overall, prices are tumbling at the fastest rate in decades. The government’s Consumer Price Index, which measures the average price of goods and services purchased by households, has fallen 1.5% over the last 12 months. The reading for July showed a 2.1% annual decline, the biggest since 1950 .  ABC NEWS
