HOBART: England signalled the probable makeup of their first Ashes test bowling attack on Monday with the decision to send four players to Brisbane early rather than playing a warmup match in Tasmania.

Pacemen Stuart Broad, Steve Finn and James Anderson, and offspinner Graeme Swann would leave Hobart on Wednesday, after the first day of England’s four-day match against Australia A, to begin preparations for the Nov. 25 test, coach Andy Flower said.

“The conditions in Hobart are very different in Brisbane and the ones we will be facing in the first test,” Flower told reporters in a wet and chilly Hobart.

“We want to give that group of bowlers a little head start in those conditions so they’re going three days earlier than the rest of us.”

Flower added while they had signalled their likely bowling attack for the first test there was still a possibility

Daylight Savings Time Change Fall 2010

46a29ee18cl 2010.jpg Daylight Savings Time Change Fall 2010Daylight Savings Time Change Fall 2010, Time Change Fall 2010 is upon us which means that you should remember to set your watches, clocks gadgets and alarm clocks back one hour this weekend if you live in Europe (when it is 3 AM on Sunday it will actually be 2 AM) and for those who live in America and in Canada the big change will take place on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at at 7.30 PM IST (6 AM EST)

No matter where you live, you will gain an extra hour of sleep. Despite the fact that the process has been taking place for 35 years now, but twice a year people in 70 countries who have adopted this system still pose the same age old question – are we switching to summer time or winter time before fixing their clocks.

In spring, the government decided to advance the legal time 60 minutes. In the fall, we get back to the usual time. But do you ever wonder why does the time change biannually?

The concept of daylight saving time and winter time was permanently established in 70 countries in 1975, just after the first oil crisis (1974).

By adjusting the official local time from an hour to standard time zone the countries were able to save energy. The concept allowed people to schedule activities while the sun was shinning in order limit the usage of artificial lighting.

But no invention is perfect. Many experts claimed that the concept has a negative impact on our health.

The main criticism from health professionals is the abrupt change in biological rhythms that occurs (especially for children) when the change takes place it is unhealthy and can cause people to experience health problems.

Some studies have shown that some individuals may have trouble sleeping (when switching to daylight saving time is one hour less sleep), experience lost of appetite, or mood swings.

Some environmentalists also believe that the process contributes to the already increasing air pollution level.

However there are so many studies that contradict the two previous findings that one would have to conclude that the changing of time has too little effects to actually cause any health or environmental issue.

Ramu apologizes to Bhansali for his comments on Guzaarish

“If anything so enamoured of hatred can be called a peace offering, then yes I’m releasing Rakht Charitra 2 on the same day (November 19) as Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish,” chuckles Ramu.

For the first time in his entire career as an outspoken critique of the Bollywood denizens, Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) has apologized to a fellow-filmmaker for offending him.

After posting a nasty comment on a social network on Guzaarish, Ramu realized he had gone too far this time and profusely apologized to Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB).

Ramu’s SMS to SLB reads, “I’m sorry if I offended you. I just have this habit of constantly saying something funny on Twitter about every happening out there. Most of the comments are on me. I make more comments on my own films than anybody else’s. I’ll take back my remark publicly asap. Sorry again.” SLB immediately chose to forgive and forgot and move on.

Uncharacteristically gracious on this occasion, one wonders what brought this generous spirit out of Ramu! Says the director, “I guess it’s the nervousness of my own release. I’ve never been more anxious about any of my films than Rakht Charitra.”

Ramu admits it is a violent film. “It does to the action genre what K3G did to the family film. But the violence is dictated by the theme. You can’t say it is excessively violent. The Telugu version was censored this week with just two minor cuts for Adults Only.”

Ramu will release the sequel to Rakht Charitra three weeks after the first part on November 19 on the same Friday as Guzaarish.

Declares Ramu, “I’m hoping that Sanjay Bhansali, Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya won’t kick brush my film’s teeth. On a more serious note, they’re two completely different genres. Guzaarish is about love. Rakht Charitra is about hate.”

That one stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and the other Vivek Oberoi is purely coincidental.

German angst as ”psychic” octopus tips Spain World Cup win

July 6, 2010 by

BERLIN: The cries of despair from all around Germany could probably be heard in South Africa as a “psychic” octopus called Paul tipped Spain Tuesday to beat Germany in the football World Cup semi-final.

The eight-legged oracle who has successfully predicted all five of Germany”s games in South Africa, carefully weighed up the two teams, before plumping for Spain, prompting anguished groans from the assembled media scrum.

Carried live on national television, two plastic boxes, one with a German flag and one with a Spanish, were lowered into Paul”s tank at an aquarium in western Germany, each with a tasty morsel of food inside.

The box which Paul opens first is adjudged to be his predicted winner.

If Paul”s performance is replicated on the pitch, it promises to be an end-to-end thriller. He teased the crowd by initially lingering at the German flag before heading for the Spanish box.

The mollusc medium has shot to fame by defying the odds with a perfect record of picking winners.

Proving he is not just attracted to the colours in the German flag, he rightly foretold the Mannschaft”s shock defeat to Serbia in the group stages.

He then predicted Germany”s triumphant drubbing of England in the last-16, provoking accusations of treachery. Paul should by rights be an England fan, having been born in Weymouth on the south English coast.

Confirming his reputation as a prognosticator par-excellence, he kept up his astonishing run of form by tipping Germany to beat highly fancied Argentina in the quarter-finals.

But all is not lost for coach Joachim Loew and his boys as Paul has been wrong before. In the European Championships in 2008, he had an 80 percent record, getting only one match wrong.

Which one? The final. Against Spain.
