6 more killed in Karachi firing incidents

At least 6 people were killed in Karachi firing incidents on Friday and death toll in the 6 days of killings reached 86.
Unidentified persons killed 45-year-old Allah Nawaz in Gulshan Tauheed area of North Karachi. In Joharabad area, firing left 26-year-old Arsalan while an unidentified person was killed in Suhrab Goth area. Whereas, 30-year-old Kamran was killed near Chorangi area.

KARACHI: The one week long fresh row of target killings continues in Karachi as one more victim was shot dead Friday morning.

According to police sources, unknown attackers opened fire early in the morning on 35-year-old Allah Nawaz in Sir Syed Town, North Karachi, and killed him on the spot.

The dead body of the deceased has been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, while police have started investigation.

Earlier on Thursday the city remained comparatively calm in the first half of the day; people went to work according to routine and most educational institutes were open. Public and private transport was on the roads and most of the markets were open too.

PM establishes NODMC to oversee flood funds

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani constituted National Oversight Disaster Management Council (NODMC) to monitor in flow of funds for various phases of post-flood recovery and reconstruction.
The NODMC would be headed by Mr. U.A.G Isani, while the other members of the Oversight Council are Ejaz Rahim, Fauzia Naqvi, Justice (r) Mian Allah Nawaz, A.Z.K. Sherdil, Fazal-ur-Rehman, Fazlullah Qureshi, Justice (r) Sardar Muhammad Raza, Muhammad Azam Khan, Justice (r) Amir-ul-Mulk Mengal, Munawwar Khan Mandokhel, G.M. Sikandar and Tariq Masood.
The council would review plans for post-flood reconstruction and monitoring progress of implementation of reconstruction. The council would also interact with authorities relevant to reconstruction (Economic Affairs Division, Planning Commission, NDMA and provincial governments). The NODMC would also ensure effective targeting and transparent disbursement of support to genuine victims. It would also be responsible to prepare quarterly reports for Council of Common Interests. According to the terms of reference, the Council would commission and supervise audits on utilization of funds.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday has established a 13-member National Oversight Disaster Management Council (NODMC) to ensure transparent use of funds for rehabilitating flood-hit areas.

UAG Eisani will be the chairperson of the council.

PM Gilani has set up this council over the proposal of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Nawaz Sharif.

The 13-member council comprises of three representatives of the federal government, two from each province, one member from Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir respectively.

The representatives from federal government include Ijaz Rahee, Fauzia Naqvi and UAG Eisani.

44e59dccfbarooqi Musharraf’s Military Secretary Had Files of Swiss Cases: Salman FarooqiISLAMABAD, Pakistan News: Principal Secretary to President Salman Farooqi has said in his remarks in the Supreme Court that files of Swiss cases were in the custody of Musharraf’s military secretary while Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday said that the letter to end the cases was written by the current government. Court assistant Justice (R) Allah Nawaz said that The court assistant Mian Allah Nawaz said National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) is a ‘dirty law’, adding the laws are not hammered out on the basis of theft, corruption and nepotism. He further said a law which affords no uniform benefit to the masses at large is not permissible.
During the hearing of NRO cases, Principal Secretary to President Salman Farooqi said that Musharraf’s military secretary was contacted to take back the files of case but in vain. On this, the Supreme Court has asked to submit written response from military secretary of Presidential Camp Office Rawalpindi. Secretary Law Justice (R) Riyaz Kayani told on CJP’s query that President Zardari’s lawyer Farooq H. Naek filed the petition that all cases against Asif Ali Zardari should be terminated under NRO. On this plea, the then Minister of Law Zahid Khan wrote to Foreign Ministry to take back the cases. On this, CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that for what reasons, the acting attorney general concealed these facts.
Earlier, when acting attorney general Shah Khawar wanted to submit files of Swiss cases, the CJP asked to bring the original files. Shah Khawar replied that original files do not exist anywhere. On this, Justice Javed Iqbal remarked that those days are gone when it was possible for government lawyers to hide evidences because nowadays there are a number of sources to get the facts. He said that the President has no authority to issue royal orders without any written work.
