First PIA flight carrying Hajis lands in Karachi

KARACHI: The first Hajj flight of Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) has arrived in Karachi, while private operators have already started to reach Karachi and Lahore.

The private scheme’s Hajjis continue to return back to Pakistan as Saudi Airlines one flight, carrying more than 300 Hajjis, reached at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore while through three other different flights more than 600 Hajjis reached Karachi today.

The Hajjis arrived in Lahore told media that majority of the Hajjis, who went through the government’s scheme, faced great difficulties in Saudi Arabia.

Under the government scheme, PIA’s first Hajj flight will bring 228 Hajjis and a second flight will reach in Karachi at 10.00pm today.

The process of bringing back all Hajjis will complete in one month. Trend Pk

Shujaat distances himself from ML factions

LAHORE: PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain says that he will not join the Muslim League factions if their objective is to attain power.

Speaking at a ceremony held to mark the Allama Iqbal Day in Islamabad today, Hussain said, “Pakistan is passing through a difficult time. If the nation doesn’t unite, only Almighty Allah can save it.”

LAHORE: Pakistan is celebrating the 133rd birthday of Allama Iqbal today (Monday). The Poet of the East was born in Sialkot on Novemebr 9, 1877. The nation will pay special tribute to the fore-dreamer of a separate country for Muslims of the sub-continent.

The day started with a guard changing ceremony at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal in Lahore. A vigilant Pakistan Navy squad took over guard duty from a troop of rangers.

Rear Admiral Bashir Ahmad was the chief guest on the occasion. He laid a wreath of flowers on the grave of the great leader of the pre-Pakistan independence movement of Muslims.

All day long, people belonging to different walks of life will continue to visit the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal to pay tribute and offer Fateha to the great scholar of the sub-continent.

LAHORE: Pakistan cricket team returned home early Friday after a near three month long tour of England marred by fixing allegations.

Coach Waqar Younis said it had been a difficult tour “on and off the field” as he and some fellow players arrived to a low-profile reception at the Allama Iqbal airport amid tight security.

Pakistan lost both the Twenty20 matches and were defeated 3-1 in Tests and 3-2 in one-day matches by England. The one-day series against England finished on Wednesday.

Test captain Salman Butt and bowlers Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif were provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and questioned by British police over an alleged plot to bowl deliberate no-balls during last month’s Test at Lord’s.

The trio returned home earlier this month.

Lahore twin blasts injure seven

LAHORE: Seven people were injured in two low-intensity blasts at Lahore’ biggest electronic market here at Hall Road on Saturday, Geo news reported.

The first blast occurred near CD’s market, Zaitoon Plaza, causing the panicked shoppers and shopkeepers running for cover. After five minutes another blast occurred near Rafi Plaza that further contributed to the panic among the people.

The impact of the blasts smashed windowpanes of the nearby shops.

The injured were rushed to Meo Hospital while police and relief crew reached the spot. They ordered the people to immediately leave the blasts site.

DCO Lahore Sajjad Bhatta said the blasts were part of conspiracy to spread fear and can be traced back to Al-Hamra Arts Council and Allama Iqbal Town blasts.
