Lahore: Main procession initiating from Nisar Haveli is on its way

The main Muharram procession which initiates from Nisar Haveli, Lahore is still ongoing and strict security measures have been ensured along the route of this procession.

This procession of 9th and 10th Muharram was originated from Nisar Haveli at 9.30 pm and thousands of mourners are participating in it. Water and milk stands for the mourners have been placed at various points on the route of this procession. This procession will reach Rang Mahal during afternoon where prayers will be offered. After which this procession will continue its journey till it ends at Karbala Gamay Shah at Namaz-e-Maghrib. According to CCPO Lahore, more than 20,000 policemen have been deployed along the route of this procession.

Ahmadinejad gets hero’s welcome in Lebanon

BEIRUT: Thousands of Lebanese gave Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a tumultuous welcome on Wednesday at the start of a visit which has highlighted Western fears about Tehran’s growing influence in Lebanon.

Throwing rice and flowers at the smiling Iranian leader, who waved from the open roof of his car, they lined the main road from Beirut airport to the presidential palace where Ahmadinejad was due to meet Lebanon’s President Michel Suleiman.

Iranian flags, banners, balloons and posters of Ahmadinejad were draped along the route as well as pictures of Iran’s spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the founder of Iran’s Islamic Republic Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

The annual Los Angeles Marathon events include the 26.2 mile Marathon past some of LA’s most famous landmarks and through diverse neighborhoods with festivities all along the course. Block Parties with live performances are spaced along the route to entertain fans while they’re waiting for runners to pass. The biggest festivities are, of course, at the Finish Line Festival. Other events associated with the Marathon are the Health & Fitness Expo at Dodger Stadium and the Win Forever Motivational Dinner with Pete Carroll the night before the race. This year the 5k run/walk will be held the day before the LA Marathon.

The 2010 LA Marathon has a new point to point route, beginning at Dodger Stadium and running to the Santa Monica Pier.

edaa2a4700ck day Kashmiris Observing Indian Republic Day As Black DayNEW DELHI: Kashmiris Observing Indian Republic Day As Black Day, Indian Paramilitary soldiers and police set up roadblocks and snipers took positions atop government buildings as India celebrated its national day Tuesday against the backdrop of a terror alert.

Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and across the world are observing Indian Republic Day as Black Day.

India celebrates its Republic Day on Jan. 26 every year, but this year the security measures have been notched up following intelligence reports of a possible terror attack by militants.

Security has also been tightened at all major government telecommunications and power installations, with additional personnel deployed, police said. At least 15,000 paramilitary soldiers were deployed in and around the capital of New Delhi to ensure safety along the route of an annual parade _ the highlight of India’s Republic Day festivities, said police spokesman Rajan Bhagat.

In downtown New Delhi, hundreds of thousands of people gathered to witness the parade a showcase of Indian military and cultural pomp under the watchful eyes of armed police.

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, who is on a four-day official visit to India, was the chief guest at the parade, which included marching bands and contingents of soldiers and schoolchildren and an aeronautic display by air force planes.
