MQM urges fast rescue of stranded miners

LONDON: Quaid MQM Altaf Hussain has urged the government to step up efforts to dig out the miners trapped underground in Abbottabad district, reports TrendPK on late Thursday.
At least seven miners are still stranded in phosphate mines for last two days. Four among eleven miners’ dead bodies have been recovered so far.
In a statement issued from London, MQM chief stressed on the need on war-footing for the fast rescue of ill-fated trapped miners.
Altaf Hussain also lunched appeal to the officials of all defense institutions to make use of available resources including moving their activists to dig out stranded miners, the statement said.
Hussain directed his party’s activists based in Abbottabad to participate in rescue operation, the statement added. TrendPK
MQM to mull rejoining government today

KARACHI: The leaders of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) are holding an important meeting today (Wednesday) to mull whether to rejoin the PPP-led government or become an active opposition at the federal level and in Sindh, TrendPK reported.
The MQM has summoned its members of the National Assembly, from Islamabad, to partake in the meeting of its Coordination Committee (CC) in Karachi. Members of the Sindh Assembly, senators and MQM office-bearers would also remain present on the occasion.
According to sources, MQM Quaid Altaf Hussain had sent the green signal to the members CC two days ago to rejoin the government after President Asif Ali Zardari pleaded withdrawal of the resignations of his party’s federal and provincial ministers.
However, Altaf had asked the central committee to hold a meeting to discuss with the party’s parliamentarians and office-bearers before reaching a decision on the issue.
The sources said that the meeting would also consult on the current state of affairs in Punjab where protests against loadshedding had turned violent as well as the law and order situation in the country. TrendPK/AGENCIES

Two lawyers gunned down in Karachi
KARACHI: Two brothers, both also lawyers, were killed in a firing of unidentified gunmen in the Musharraf Colony here on Saturday.
Following the incident, the lawyers protested and boycotted routine activities in the City Court.
According to details, two brothers Altaf Hussain and Nazeer Hussain were gunned down when unknown gunmen opened fire on their car in the Musharraf Colony, in the limits of the Maripur police station.
Police told the media that the slain brothers belonged to Chakwal and had been living in Karachi from last several years.
There was no enmity of them with anyone, told their brother.
Slain lawyer Altaf Hussain was a former member of the Karachi Bar Association.
The members of the Karachi Bar Association’s governing body protested and boycotted routine activities in the City Court and demanded quick action against the killers. TrendPK
MQM chief condoles death of party workers
In a press statement issued from London, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain condoled the death of Asif Ali, Muneer Ahmed and Muhammad Naeem with the bereaved families.
The MQM Rabita Comittee said that the incident was a conspiracy to deteriorate the Karachi peace. The Rabita Comittee also demanded the governor and the Sindh chief minister take notice of the killings and order the arrest of miscreants involved in the incident.
Peshawar: 9 killed in Swabi Interchange suicide blast
PESHAWAR: At least nine people, including a policeman, have been killed and several others wounded in a suicide bomb blast at a reception arranged for JUI-F chief Maulana Fazal-ur Rehman, near Swabi Interchange, TrendPK reported Wednesday.
Police and other law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area; the bodies and injured have been taken to Swabi’s district hospital.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman remained safe in the attack.

Half working day for Sindh, complete off for rest
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday announced Wednesday (March 30) as a half working day due to the Pakistan-India World Cup semi-final.
All the offices will close at 12:00 noon on Wednesday so that the people could watch Pakistan-India cricket match, said a press release issued here from the Prime Minister House.
All the things will come to a standstill at 2:30 pm in both the countries when the semi-final between the two archrivals will start at Mohali. Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah has announced a public holiday in the province on March 30.
However, the session of the Sindh Assembly would be held as per schedule on Wednesday from 9:am, says an official statement here on Tuesday.
Earlier, MQM chief Altaf Hussain had appealed to concerned authorities to announce public holiday on March 30, keeping in view the aspirations of the people about watching the semi-final.
Altaf urges religious leaders to end blasphemy protests
KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain today urged the country’s religious leaders to end their ongoing protests following Prime Minister’s assurance to not amend blasphemy law.
In a telephonic address from London, he said that no Muslim can even imagine showing disrespect toward Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
“I appeal to religious leaders to end their protests on blasphemy law after Premier Gilani’s assurance,” he said.
“Islam preaches modesty, not extremism and coercion while religious radicalism is also against the teachings of Islam.
“Not only Islam teaches peace to Muslims, it guarantees peace and safety to non-Muslims also.”
“Bombing mosques, sacred shrines, worship places and imambargahs and killing innocent Muslims are not anti-Islamic actions?” he questioned.
Altaf demands smooth gas supply to Karachi
MQM chief Altaf Hussain has asked PM Gilani and President Zardari to ensure proper supply of gas to Karachi and to restore supply of gas to KESC by Sui Southern Gas.
In a statement issued from London, Altaf said that 12-16 hours loadshedding has been started in Karachis industrial and domestic sectors due to shortage of gas to KESC. Due to which, people were facing problems and industries were being shut down. Altaf said that Karachi should be provided proper gas supply as it was backbone of countrys economy.
No Single Party Can Resolve Problems Alone: Malik
