KP holds donor conference for flood aid

ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) donor conference was held in Islamabad on Friday to brief the international community about the devastation caused by the worst floods in the history of Pakistan.
Aid worth Rs. 200 billion was asked for to compensate losses.
Envoys from Muslim countries, the European Union, United States, China and other countries attended the conference. Representatives of the British High Commission, Islamic Development, World Bank and USAID were also present.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti briefed on flood destruction in the province.
“A flood commission has been set up for the rehabilitation of flood victims. We need more international aid at the earliest because the militants can take advantage of the delay in reconstruction and rehabilitation of flood devastation,” said KP CM Hoti.

LAHORE: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Ameer Haider Khan Hoti met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif here on Monday.
Matters of mutual interest came under discussion in the meeting. Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa and Minister Information Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Mian Iftikhar Hussain were also present on the occasion.

3 killed, dozen injured in Swat blast
MINGORA: A suicide blast took place at crowded Sohrab Chowk in Swat, killing at least three persons and wounding 12 others, police and officials of Saidu Sharif Hospital said.
The bomber exploded himself up prematurely upon seeing security forces before hitting the target at local market in busy Sohrab chowk, DPO Qazi Farooq told reporters here.
He confirmed the death of three persons and injuring of six. At least 12 shops were destroyed and damaged in the attack.
Police and other law enforcement agencies rushed to site and shifted the injured to hospital.
The identity of the victims could not be immediately ascertained. All the victims are civilians.
Sources said that the attack happened shortly after law enforcement agencies arrested a suspected militant from the area following an information about presence of suicide bomber in the area. The security forces started search operation.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has strongly condemned the attack and termed it a cowardly act.
He ordered probe of the incident and directed the Saidu Sharif hospital administration to provide quality treatment to victims. He prayed for the early recovery of injured and departed soul of deceased. He said that elements involved in it would soon be brought to justice.
Clash In Malakand 5 Militant Killed
SWAT: Five militants were killed during a clash between security forces and militants in Malakand.
According to sources, five militants were killed during a clash in Thana area of Malakand Agency on Friday morning. Large arms and explosive cache was also recovered from their possession. The militants were reportedly foreigners whose bodies have been placed in the local hospital for identification.
Meanwhile, Swat media center announced curfew relaxation till 11:00 pm in Mingora, Fizzaghat, Charbagh, Kanju and Kabal whereas curfew will be eased till 6:00 pm in Matta, Khawazakhela, Darashkhela, Madeen and Peochar.

Eight Khasadars’ Funeral Prayers Offered
PESHAWAR: Funeral prayers of eight officials of Khasadar Force, who got killed in a suicide blast on Thursday evening, have been offered early today.
At least 22 personnel of Khasadar Force were killed and several others injured in a deadly suicide attack at Torkham of Tehsil Landi Kotal in Khyber Agency on Thursday evening, political agent Captain Tariq Hayat Khan (retd) said.
The suicide bomber entered in the office of political Tehsildar Torkham where the Khasadars were gathered in a barrack for Iftari and detonated himself just before Iftari, he told reporters.
The Chief Minister NWFP Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has strongly condemned the attack and termed it cowardice act of terrorism. He directed the doctors to provide every possible help and treatment to the patients.
