MUMBAI: President Barack Obama announced $10 billion in business deals on Saturday as he arrived in India to boost U.S. exports and jobs after a mauling in mid-term polls, but he ran into immediate controversy over Pakistan.

Obama flew into Mumbai, India’s financial hub, and announced the United States would also relax export controls over sensitive technology, a demand of India’s that will help deepen U.S. ties with the emerging global power and its trillion dollar economy.

While most of the announced deals had been pending for months, Obama’s visit, the first leg of a 10-day Asian tour, has been hailed as moving the United States closer to India as Washington tries to revive a weak economy and gather support to pressure China on its currency.

“The United States sees Asia, especially India, as the market of the future,” Obama told a meeting of U.S. and Indian

The Arafat sermon was delivered by the Mufti-e-Azam in Masjid Nimra at Arafat.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz said the whole world was facing challenges of terrorism and efforts were being made to destroy Muslim youngsters. He said the world knew more about Islam today than ever before. Some powers are trying to create misconceptions and doubts about Islam therefore Msulims should unite to face such problems.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz told that faith was the only thing that could empower one. Islam is a religion of peace and guarantees it by opposing terrorism. He urged young Muslims to be cautious of miscreants. Today the non-Muslim powers are trying to divide Muslims and the biggest obligation of Muslims is to stay united. He urged Ummah to evade differences through tolerance and solidarity.
Mufti-e-Azam said Islam was a right religion and came for all nations of the world. The real purpose of Hajj is to spread message of oneness of Allah. It is because of non-Islamic economic principles that world’s largest companies are going bankrupt today. The world is looking for a refuge and the only refuge is Islam. The world Must Recognise Pakistan’s Critical Anti-Terrorism Role And Understand The Complex War:Speaking at the international launch of a Pakistani TV drama, portraying the country’s ongoing anti-militant struggle at the cost of enormous human suffering, the ambassador said Pakistan has rendered more sacrifices than any other nation in the fight against terrorism. ‘Pakistan has lost more lives to terrorism in the last two years than any other country, more Pakistani soldiers have died in the battle against terrorism,’ Haqqani told Pakistani and American media representatives at the embassy, where director, playwright and cast introduced the play ‘Khuda Zameen Se Gaya Nahin’.c23618b34800x196 The world Must Recognise Pakistan’s Critical Anti Terrorism Role And Understand The Complex War

Still there are people around the world who do not recognise Pakistan’s sacrifices and nor do they understand the complexity of this difficult war,’ the envoy added. Based on real happenings and written by Asghar Nadeem Syed, the drama serial depicts resilience and aspirations of the Pakistanis to move forward as a moderate people. The play, produced by Communication Research Strategies, will be beamed internationally in 16 episodes by PTV Globe.

The characters and situations in the production highlight psychological, emotional and social tensions in their struggle to defend their way of life. The play has been shot at 50 different locations and also shows lifelike scenes of Pakistani military actions against militants, produced with the help of Inter-Services Public Relations. In his remarks, Haqqani pointed out that the world owes it to the Pakistanis and Afghanis to help them tide over troubles that arose out of the West-supported Jihad against the Soviet Union in the 1980s, when one extreme ideology was pitched against another. ‘When the Soviet Union pulled out of Afghanistan, the United States left Pakistan and Afghanistan — the mujahideen (brought together from around the world) did not, and have morphed into the Taliban.’

The United States and Pakistan, he stated, are allies. ‘We do not always agree with one another but the fact remains that our goals in the region are similar.’ ‘Pakistan wants a stable Afghanistan and Pakistan wants to eliminate terrorism from the region. Pakistanis want to move forward as a progressive and democratic nation.’ Islamabad, he said, wants to resolve issues with its neighbours but argued that Pakistan would not be told by others whether its security concerns emanate from the eastern border or from terrorism on the western border. ‘We will define our security concerns ourselves.’

He said Pakistani soldiers, intelligence personnel, politicians and people are jointly fighting the menace of terrorism, which must be addressed with a multidimensional approach having economic, social and political components. The ambassador said the US and Pakistan should continue a process of overcoming trust deficit of the last three decades that began with Secretary of State Hillary Clintons three-day visit to Pakistan last month. He lauded the role of Pakistani artists, musicians, poets, writers and particularly the entire team of the production for reflecting in their work the nation’s struggle against extremism. Writer Asghar Nadeem Syed, Director Kashif Nisar, artistes Ayesha Khan and Noman Ejaz introduced some aspects and theme of the play to the audience comprising American South Asian affairs experts and journalists.

Mary Weiland,Mary Forsberg Weiland:Mary Weiland was the wife of Scott Weiland, frontman for the 1990s grunge band Stone Temple Pilots.  I’ll never forget their song “Interstate Love Song” for many reasons I won’t mention here.

Mary Forsberg Weiland recently wrote about her time with Scott and the band in her memoir, “Fall to Pieces: A Memoir of Drugs, Rock ‘n’ Roll, and Mental Illness.”  Mary, a divorced former model, wrote the book with Larkin Warren, former Esquire editor.

Seems Scott and Mary lived up to the band name by getting stoned all the time.  Both were strung out on heroin.  Mary recalls a time they both shot up so much they had to wear long sleeved shirts to hide the needle marks when they attended a Fourth of July party thrown by Leonardo DiCaprio at his Malibu home.

I was reminded of a scene from the movie “Waiting to Exhale” when I read what Mary did in March, 2007.  Seems she dragged Scott’s wardrobe into their driveway and set it on fire.  She landed in a mental hospital with a diagnosis of bi-polar disorder for her actions.  (I don’t remember that happening in the movie.)

Mary said about the torching experience, “The bonfire was huge and very pretty. Everything went up in smoke quickly, except the shoe leather; the Guccis took the longest.  The news reports said I’d torched $10,000 worth of Scott’s clothes, which was wrong by a factor of eight. He was somewhat insulted at their estimate: ‘Eighty thousand dollars, Mary,’ he said later.

Mary was just 16 when she entered into a life of sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll that included heroin and crack.  Scott Weiland is credited with the breakup of the band because of his wild behavior.

Mary’s memoir hit the market on November 10 if you want to read more.  It’s sad to think these guys were so stoned when they sang some of my favorite songs.

Brooke Hundley Interview:ABC got the scoop on a sit-down interview with Brooke Hundley, the former ESPN employee who was the central figure in the Steve Phillips affair scandal that had the New York tabloids buzzing for more than a week and nearly blew up the sports blogosphere. Well, at least Deadspin.

Phillips is still presumably in duck-and-cover mode, dealing with his announced sex addiction in a facility far away from any lights, cameras and HD makeup. But Hundley is finally speaking out to ABC, somewhat ironically part of the same company she worked for until recently being fired.

Hundley talked with Good Morning America’s Kate Snow:

Stissing Mountain High school,Pine Plains High School:Pine Plains Town Supervisor Gregg Pulver said the gunman at Stissing Mountain High School was in his 40s. No one was injured, he said.

“I have no idea why this is taking place,” Pulver said just moments before the gunman surrendered. Police had been in contact with the suspect throughout the standoff, he said.

The school about 90 miles north of New York City was on lockdown with the gunman and his hostage contained to one room. Students and other faculty members were locked in other rooms.

After the man surrendered, armed officers could be seen standing guard at the front door of the school. The handcuffed man was led to an ambulance, where he was checked by paramedics.

The school has about 500 students and 100 staff members.

Margaret Hart, who lives across the street from the school, said police cars were in the neighborhood and helicopters flew overhead.

Parents were told to gather in a parking lot at a restaurant a couple of blocks from school.
