Afghanistan unveils final results from fraud-marred vote

KABUL: Afghanistan on Wednesday released almost all the final results from its controversial parliamentary election after massive fraud saw nearly a quarter of votes cancelled and 24 winners disqualified.
The main opponent of President Hamid Karzai swiftly claimed that his supporters had won more than 90 seats in the 249-member chamber as analysts said the head of state’s support base in the new parliament would weaken.
But the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA), a leading Afghan election watchdog, said the vote was mired with massive fraud from start to end and called on election authorities to reform their system.

Targeted killing toll rises to 7; three injured
KARACHI: The toll in targeted killing incidents has risen to seven while another three are injured till Tuesday morning, Geo news reported.
Fresh wave of fierce targeted killing in Karachi earlier claimed six lives including an Assistant Jailor on late Monday, Geo news reported.
According to police sources, Assistant Jailor, Ishaq Mio, was shot injured by armed men who was rushed to a private hospital but succumbed to fatal injuries.
Mohammed Ibrahim was gunned down in Gulistan-e-Johar. His dead body has been shifted to JPMC Hospital.
Ibrahim was associated with Ahl-e-Sunnat political party as regional leader, claimed by spokesman to party Ahsan Farooqi.
Three persons were targeted killed in Musa Colony, near Nazimabad College for Man and Lee Market, which triggered violence in parts of city whereby people in rage set vehicles alight, chanted slogans and staged fierce protest.
Later police and rangers’ contingents controlled situation and dispersed protestors.

Karachi, Pakistan News: The ongoing targeted killing claimed another three lives in Karachi pushing the tally to 41.
Some unidentified culprits gunned down one Muhammad Zubair r/o Federal B Area in front of Ala Din Park at Gulshan Iqbal Block. Sattar was mowed down at Daood Chowrangi while Javed’s body was found in the limits of Thana Ajmeer Sharif.
Rangers have been given special authority to deal with the exacerbating law and order situation in Karachi.

US Drone Strike in Miranshsh, 3 killed
MIRANSHAH, Pakistan News: At least three persons were killed and another three were injured in suspected US drone strike in Miranshah on early Tuesday morning.
The strike took place in Aspalga village, some 12 kilometres (seven miles) southeast of Miranshah, the main town of the restive North Waziristan tribal district, officials said.
“A car was hit by two missiles, killing three people and injuring three others,” security officials in the area told media.
One security and one intelligence official at Peshawar, the troubled capital of Northwest Frontier Province also confirmed the incident, saying, “The missiles were fired from a US drone.”

Chooper Shelling In Orakzai 6 Militant Killed
KALAYA: At least six militants were killed as gunship helicopters and jet fighters pound at their hideouts in Ziarat Syed Khalil Baba, Astorkhel and Ferozkhel areas of lower Orakzai tribal region.
Several militants were also injured in the air strikes and three houses were destroyed.
In Atmankhel five students were killed and three injured when they trapped in the firing between two groups in the region. The injured students were transferred to Kalaya hospital.

Operation In Swat Thirtythree Militant Captured
ISLAMABAD: The security forces apprehended 33 militants in the continued search and clearance operations in Swat and Malakand districts during the last 24 hours, the army said Tuesday.
The army said in a daily update that the security forces conducted search operations in various areas in Swat and arrested 30 militants with another three surrendering themselves to the security forces.
Also in Swat, during the search operation at Rema the security forces recovered a huge cache of ammunition of different calibre, said the statement.
On relief activities, the army said, so far 292,568 cash cards have been distributed amongst the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Malakand.
