PPP always respects courts, PM Gilani tells NRO Implement bench

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said he cannot even think to put Supreme Court (SC) to ridicule.

The PM Gilani appearing before a seven-strong bench of the apex court, noted, ‘We always respected the court; accordingly, I decided to appear before the court as soon as I received the contempt notice.’

He added, “This is an indication of the court’s respect that I appeared before the court in person.”

“All allies came along with me to show respect to the court. We earlier also appeared before the court and served jail terms too,’ he said speaking to the court on the rostrum.

“No judge ever had complaints against me. We act upon the law in complete accordance with the Constitution,” he maintained.

‘I appeared before the court during five years,’ he added noting Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Begum Nusrat Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto always appeared before the courts.

Impressing upon the court that he did not intended the contempt of the court by not writing a letter, as President enjoys immunity under the Constitution, he told the court saying he acted in compliance with the Constitution. TrendPK

Muhammad Ilyas appears before PCBs disciplinary committee

Muhammad Ilyas appeared before two-member disciplinary committee headed by Sultan Rana at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and presented his stance.

Talking to media after the meeting, Muhammad Ilyas said that he answered committee’s queries and the proceedings remained positive.

He said decision regarding appeal would be taken after receiving decision of the committee.

Action plane ready for Karachi peace

KARACHI: The Sindh Home Department has made an action plan as peace could be revived in the city, SAMAA reported Thursday.

While talking to SAMAA, Sharfuddin Memon, the advisor on the interior, told that the government will conduct the operation for the recovery of the weapons, if they do not hand over voluntarily.

He said that the government will give reward to those who provide information about men involved in the target killings. He said that culprits would be appeared before the special courts. SAMAA

MQM delegation meets Punjab CM

LAHORE: A four-member delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) met with Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif at his residence here on Friday.

The delegation headed by Provincial Minister Dr. Sagheer comprised of Faisal Sabzwari, Khalid Umer and Nisar Ahmad Panwar discussed conventions of MQM in Punjab and other issues.

Talking to Geo News, MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari said that permission to hold conventions in open spaces in Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi has been denied due to security concerns. He said the delegation has conveyed the invitation from MQM chief Altaf Hussain to Shahbaz Sharif to visit nine zero.

Sabzwari lauded the decisions of federal government for energy conservation and urged people to support government.

Veena, Asif withdraw petitions

LAHORE: Actress Veena Malik and cricketer Mohammad Asif after reaching a compromise withdrew applications filed in Lahore High Court against each other, Geo News reported.

Earlier, Mohammad Asif and Veena Malik seeking action against each other moved the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Asif filed a petition in the LHC challenging order of an additional district and sessions judge who on an application of Veena had directed police to proceed against the player in accordance with law.

The actress also approached the LHC against police for not registering a case under section 489-F of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) in the light of orders issued by the sessions judge.

Counsels of both parties appeared before court and informed the bench about the compromise, consequently withdrawing the petitions.

d0d312033areply SC Asks Rehman Malik to Submit Written ReplyISLAMABAD, Pakistan News: Interior Minister Rehman Malik has obtained time to submit his written reply in a contempt of court charge after he appeared before the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has booked 4 cases against a mills group in connection with the Steel Mills corruption case.

SC’s three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice (CJ) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, heard the Steel Mills corruption case of Rs22 billion.

Rehman Malik was also present at the courts’ room, with regard to the allegations that he violated the court order by changing the investigative team probing into allegations of corruption in Pakistan Steel Mills.

Malik said he accepts the supremacy of the constitution, and that is why he appeared before the apex court.

Malik said he was unable to get lawyer’s assistance due to his tough schedule, while CJ accepted his request and asked the Interior Minister to submit the reply by January 24, 2010.
