Mirzas statement to trigger violence in Sindh, says MQM

 The Coordination Committee meetings of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were held in Karachi and London to discuss the situation arising after the press conference of former provincial senior minister, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza.

In the joint statement after the meetings Coordination Committee sources said that Zulfiqar Mirza was himself involved in target killings in Karachi.

The Coordination Committee has also asked Pakistan People’s Party to clears its position in this regard.

The MQM condemned Zulfiqar Mirza’s allegations and said why kidnapping for ransom and ‘Bhatta Mafia’ activities started soon after his appointment as Sindh Interior Minister.

The MQM also alleged that Mirza’s allegations would add fuel to the fire and trigger violence in Karachi. The Coordination Committee said that Mirza was directly involved in target killing in Karachi.

Says the source, “The Indian faces of Lakme have so far been all models. Even Katrina Kaif was a Lakme girl only when she was model. This is the first time that a Bollywood actress has been given this honour in the history of the cosmetic’s existence.”

According to the source close to Kareena, the formal announcement of Kareena’s appointment would be made this weekend.

Ex-Attorney General Latif Khosa appointed as Governor Punjab

According to the latest reports of trendpk.com.Com, it is known that Ex-Attorney General Latif Khosa has been appointed as the new Govenor Punjab.

Earlier to this appointment, Latif Khosa had a meeting with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in Islamabad. He also had a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari in Karachi last night. It is learnt that Latif Khosa is considered to be among the few close associates of President Zardari. Previously Latif Khosa has also been appointed as Attorney General of Pakistan and advisor to the Prime Minister.

The need of this appointment for a new Governor Punjab arose after the assassination of Salman Taseer on 4th January 2011.

While commenting on the Imran Shahs statement, DG FIA Waseem Ahmad said that Imran Shah has not mentioned Qadir Gilanis name in his statement adding that he has not detail of the statement recorded by Imran Shah.

Jehangir opposes CJ’s sole discretion to name judges

ISLAMABAD: Noted human rights activist and President of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Asma Jehangir says that the Chief Justice (CJ) should not have the sole authority to recommend names for judges in the Judicial Commission.

Speaking at a seminar here on Tuesday, she said two senior judges involved in the Judicial Commission should also have the authority to recommend names for the appointment of judges.

The SCBA chief said that no relative of the commission’s members should be considered.

“If any member feels that his relative is competent, he should first voluntarily surrender his membership,” she advised.

“Although I am in favor of cases of public litigation, suo motu notices should not be taken on a daily basis.”

She further said that a proper method should be adopted for suo motu notices.

ISLAMABAD: The second meeting of Judges Appointing Parliamentary Committee (JAPC) is being held in Islamabad to finalize the appointment of the chairman and other rules and regulations.

The meeting of an eight-member committee is being held in Parliament House, Islamabad. The meeting is scheduled to review the proposals on appointing a chairman for the committee.

One proposal suggests that turn by turn, each member should be made chairman of the committee, while another proposal has been submitted that the chairman should be made with the majority’s choice. The meeting will evaluate both.

The meeting will also examine the appointment of the Judicial Commission’s nominee, Justice Ajaz Chaudhry’s as the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court (CJ-LHC).

IICs role reduced to floating proposals only

The role of Islamic Ideology Council has been restricted to giving proposals only, News Trends reported on Sunday.
However, none of its proposal has been approved except Hadood Ordinance.

Maulana Maulvi Muhammad Khan Sherani has been appointed a new chairman of the Council on this Eid. Maulana Sherani has also filed a petition in the Shariah Court against non-consideration of the Councils proposals. Appointment of judges to be included in constitution

Constitutional reforms committee of the parliament has started reviewing the judges appointment and instead of making it a part of the rules, the committee has started reviewing it to be made a part of the constitution of the country, Dunya News reported on Monday.
The meeting of the committee was held in the parliament in Islamabad that was presided over by the Chairman of the Committee Mian Raza Rabbani. During the meeting Raza Rabbani said that after the verdict of the Supreme Court, the earlier decision of the committee to include the appointment of judges in the rules would be reviewed to make it a part of the constitution. The verdict of the Supreme Court on the 18th Amendment was wholly analyzed during the meeting of the committee and it was declared that the verdict is a positive move forward towards a better relationship between the judiciary, executive and the legislature. The committee also declared that the verdict has proved that the apex court has respected the stature of the parliament and hence requires a positive response. The committee also considered the recommendations of the Supreme Court and vowed to defend and safeguard the judiciary in accordance with the constitution.
The next meeting of the committee would be held on 10th November this year.

Judicial commission to discuss judges appointment on Nov 6

Meeting of judicial commission will be held on November 6 for the appointment of judges in higher courts.
According to PR department of the Supreme Court, the issue of current and future judges appointment in higher courts will come under discussion in the meeting. It was said in the SC verdict issued on October 21 that judges in higher courts would be appointed under Article 175 after which judicial commission formation got started. Justice Ali Hassan and Justice Allah Nawaz have been appointed as members of the commission.
