Hillary Clinton arrives in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, has arrived in Islamabad for a two-day visit that will focus on economic aid and Pakistan”s role in the war in Afghanistan, Geo News reported Sunday.
Clinton arrived here today to attend at least one public event in Islamabad. Her talks on Monday will include several senior Pakistani officials, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the foreign minister.
The US top diplomat will meet President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani today.
Clinton is slated to attend strategic dialogues tomorrow.
Four industrialists nabbed for PSM fraud
KARACHI: At least four industrialists have been nabbed for embezzlements in iron purchase in Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM), Geo News reported Sunday.
But, the PSM’s Re-rolling Mill Associations said they are being victimized to show recovery.
According to sources, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested at least four people involved in the PSM scam.
The chief of Re-rolling Mill Association Ismat Pervaiz said, ‘We are being made the scapegoat to show recovery to the Supreme Court (SC). Re-rolling Mill Association cannot earn unwarranted profits as it is a consumer dealer.’
‘The members of Re-rolling Mill Association never took any illegal benefit; however, to save some people, we are being pressurized,’ he stressed.
Warning to take recourse to the courts if the action against them is not halted, he further said, ‘The PSM never provided us with material as per our requirements.’
Ismat Pervaiz said the PSM chief acknowledged that the RMA workers did nothing wrong, adding he would lay bare the facts in tomorrow’s press briefing.
Counterterrorism tops SAARC Conference agenda
ISLAMABAD: The 3rd conference comprising Home Ministers from member countries of SAARC is underway here in Islamabad on Saturday, Geo news reported.
The issue of counterterrorism tops the conference’s agenda together with implementation of recommendations sought to enhance cooperation among member countries in key sectors including anti-terrorism.
Federal Minister for Interior Affairs Abdul Rehman Malik is chairing the conference being attended by Home Ministers from India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan.
Several other top government officials from member countries are also present on the occasion.
The conference is mulling over enhancing cooperation for anti-terrorism, anti-smuggling drugs, anti-money laundering, immigration and police system.
A joint declaration will be issued at the end of conference.
Woman, 4 kids commit suicide in YRK
RAHIM YAR KHAN: A woman with her four children threw themselves under a train on a rail track near Rahim Yar Khan, thus reportedly committing suicide early on Saturday, Geo news reported.
According police sources, all five bodies have been badly mutilated, meanwhile, police have kicked off investigation to determine the nature of deaths – either a suicidal or accidental.
Corpses have been shifted to a hospital in Rahim Yar Khan while the heirs of deceased persons are being looked for, police sources said.

SARGODHA: At least five persons including two children died in a road accident near Sargodha late on Saturday night, Geo news reported.
According to sources, the accident took place as a speedy wagon vehicle met a head-on collision with a truck.
Rescue efforts are underway meanwhile injured and dead bodies are being shifted to hospital.
