Julian Assange Arrested, Assange turned himself in to U.K. police earlier in the day in the latest blow to his WikiLeaks organization, which faces legal, financial and technological challenges after releasing hundreds of secret U.S. diplomatic cables.
Swedish prosecutors had issued an arrest warrant for the 39-year-old Australian, who is accused of sexual misconduct with two women.
Assange surrendered at 9:30 a.m. local time (4:30 a.m. ET) Tuesday. The U.K.’s Guardian newspaper reported that Assange later arrived at a London court accompanied by British lawyers Mark Stephens and Jennifer Robinson.
During his court appearance, Assange said he would fight extradition to Sweden and he provided the court with an Australian address. Britain’s Sky News reported that Assange was receiving consular assistance from officials at the Australian High Commission.
The next court hearing is scheduled for next Tuesday, and Assange will remain in custody until then because he was deemed to be a flight risk.
Judge Howard Riddle asked Assange whether he understood that he could agree to be extradited to Sweden. Assange, dressed in a navy blue suit, cleared his throat and said: “I understand that and I do not consent.”

Swedish police have issued another international arrest warrant for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
British newspapers have been reporting police know Assange is in south-east England, but have been hamstrung by errors with the initial warrant from Stockholm. The fresh detention order concerns alleged sexual crimes during a visit to Sweden in August. Assange has not been charged and he denies the allegations. A WikiLeaks spokesman says Assange has to remain out of the public eye because he is facing assassination threats following the whistleblowing website’s publication of secret US diplomatic cables.

Interpol on Tuesday issued an arrest warrant for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange over rape allegations.
The France-based international police organization issued a red notice for Assange — the equivalent of putting him on its most-wanted list — after Sweden issued an arrest warrant for him as part of a drawn-out rape investigation.
Assange, a 39-year-old Australian, came to Sweden in August seeking to stay because his website servers are in the country. However, his application was denied in October. During his stay, he was accused of raping and molesting two women.
Assange, a former computer hacker whose whereabouts are unknown, has denied the allegations. He said the allegations are a smear campaign by the Pentagon against him because he released thousands of classified U.S. war reports from Afghanistan and Iraq. Court documents filed by prosecutors allege that Assange is suspected of raping and sexually molesting a woman in the town of Enkoping. He also was suspected of the sexual molestation and unlawful coercion of a second woman in Stockholm. The two women attended a seminar held by Assange and six days later, they both launched the allegations, the court document said. A Stockholm prosecutor immediately started a rape investigation, but the case was dropped the next day.WikiLeaks has recently published an unprecedented 400,000 classified U.S. documents on the Iraq war and posted 77,000 secret U.S. files on the Afghan conflict in July.

STOCKHOLM: Julian Assange, the Australian founder of whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks, has appealed a Swedish arrest warrant for alleged sexual crimes, the country’s High Court said on Wednesday.
Assange has denied the allegations of rape, sexual molestation and unlawful coercion which led to the Swedish arrest warrant.
His appeal against the arrest order was lodged with the High Court on Tuesday by his lawyer Bjorn Hurtig.
The former computer hacker is at the center of a global controversy after WikiLeaks released more than 250,000 cables at the weekend, exposing the inner workings of U.S. diplomacy and including brutally candid assessments of world leaders.
“Julian Assange demands that the High Court, after issuing a leave to appeal, changes the appeal court’s decision and immediately overturns the decision to detain Julian Assange,” the document
