Zulfiqar Mirza quits PPP position, portfolio

KARACHI: Sindh’s Senior Minister and PPP’s Senior Vice President Dr Zulfiqar Mirza announced on Sunday to quit party position and membership of Sindh Assembly, TrendPK reported.

He claimed that peace could be restored in Karachi within 15 days. “The bloodshed in the city will not end with my departure,” he added.

Zulfiqar Mirza said that he has so many Urdu speaking relatives. “I had not said that all Urdu speaking people were or are bad but I say that those who want to disintegrate Pakistan and specially Sindh are my enemies.”

Mirza said that Rehman Malik is the biggest enemy of Pakistan. “Rehman Malik is the biggest enemy of mine.”

Mirza said that Wali Khan Babar, a Karachi-based journalist, was killed by MQM. “Liaquat, a target killer, killed Wali Khan Babar,” he said.

“The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has not 100 percent mandate in Karachi and Hyderabad.”

“I am not a qualified actor. Rehman Malik is the vice chancellor of ‘liar’ university,” he added.

Mirza said that the Khidmat-e Khalq Foundation’s ambulances are used to transfer weapons and, he added, bodies are thrown through these vehicles.

“The chief of CPLC has affiliation with this organization. I don’t want to see him as the head of CPLC.”

“Altaf Hussain wrote a letter to UK’s premier Tony Blair in 2001, requesting him to eliminate ISI before it can create more Osama bin Laden,” he said.

He said that ISI and army have saved the country.

“I was forced to send to Nine Zero (MQM’s headquarter) once.”

Mirza said that Ishtiaq is a notorious target killer. He belongs to the MQM.

He said that during his time as a Sindh’s home minister he appointed about ten thousand policemen throughout the province. “I did not appoint anyone on the recommendations of the MQM,” he added.
“Altaf Hussain is a killer and the MQM is a terrorist organization,” he said.

“I have dedicated my life for the people of Karachi. I invite business community and traders to support me,” he said.

“It was attempted to defame me through facebook and other means.”

He said that Interior Minister Rehman Malik did not inform the party leadership rightly. “He is the aide of target killers.”

Replying to a question, he said that he will appear before the Supreme Court. “If am called by the court, I’ll say the truth on the Karachi situation,” he added.

Mirza said that MQM’s Nasreen Jalil wrote letters against him to 22 foreign ambassadors.

“I am not leaving PPP and my relation with President Asif Ali Zardari will be intact,” he replied.

Mirza said that he and Pir Mazharul Haq held a meeting with MQM’s Chief Altaf Hussain in London. “Altaf informed me that America wanted to disintegrate Pakistan and his party (MQM) will continue to support this cause and will kill Pakhtoon people,” he said. TrendPK

PPP activists protest against Taseer’s abduction

LAHORE: Following the anger of the leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) over alleged negligence rendered by Punjab government in connection with kidnapping of Shahbaz Taseer, the son of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer, the PPP’s activists staged protest in Lahore, TrendPK reported Friday night.

According to details, political workers, hailing from PPP Lahore chapter, took to street and staged demonstration outside provincial assembly building against inefficiency of Punjab government over rendering negligence which led to likelihood of kidnapping of Taseer junior.

Agitators raised slogans against Shahbaz Sharif government, calling for immediate recovery of Shahbaz Taseer.

On the occasion, talking to media, provincial party leader Samiullah said none can anticipate any good from Punjab government, adding that instead of advising Sindh government, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif should ensure security of people dwelling in Lahore. TrendPK

Sindh: Nationalist parties announce to observe strike on 13th

They have appealed to the masses to keep their business activities and transportation service shut.

Sindh United Party President Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah met nationalist leaders at his residence and addressed a press conference.

He said that the government has rejected the people of Sindh by the ordinance restoring the local government system, adding that if the government did not withdraw its decision at once, they would not only observe a strike but also lay siege to the Assembly.

He said that the PPP had lost its credibility and representation among the masses.

Sindh National Front chairman Mumtaz Bhutto said that the strike on August 13 would reflect the voice of the people. If the government did not change its direction, it would definitely lose its remaining mandate.

PA calls for IRSA restructuring

LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly unanimously passed a resolution, calling for restructuring of Indus River System Authority (IRSA) to ensure fair distribution of water among provinces.

The resolution demands that the fifth member of the IRSA board should be selected from a neutral territory, either from Islamabad or Azad Kashmir.

In another resolution passed by the provincial assembly, the federal government has been asked to end the continuing gas outages for Punjab’s industries.

Speaking to reporters outside the assembly, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the Punjab government has not been consulted about appointment of new governor.

Responding to a question, he said that PML-N has no objection to appointment of Babar Awan or any other person as Governor of Punjab. TrendPK

National Assembly standing committee for food and agriculture has rejected RGST, trendpk.Com reported on Saturday.

On the other hand FBR has confessed that the imposition of RGST would cause an increase in the inflation rate. Javed Iqbal Warraich presided over the meeting of standing committee for food and agriculture. During the meeting the members of the committee said that the agriculture sector is already under stress and that it should be saved from RGST. Imposition of RGST on agricultural sector would increase the prices of fertilizers, seed, pesticides and agricultural machinery which, in turn, would affect the peasants.

On the other hand standing committee has recommended to lift the ban on export of Gurr from KhyberPakhtunkhwa. Standing committee has constituted another committee to to deal with export of Gurr to Afghanistan from KhyberPkahtunkhwa.

Students, teachers attack Punjab Assembly to protest against colleges’ sovereignty

LAHORE: Angry students and teachers attacked Punjab Assembly on Wednesday to exhibit their stern protest against the sovereignty granted by the government of 26 government colleges.

According to details, a joint rally of students’ Joint Action Committee and teachers staged a sit-in on Mall Road and blocked traffic with burning tires.

Later on, infuriated students attacked Punjab Assembly and succeeded in entering the boundary after clashing with police and crossing all barricades.

The enraged and unstoppable students damaged everything they found, including mirrors of vehicles and offices. They also attacked staffers on duty and tortured them.

Police launched a stern baton charge and managed to push out students and teachers from the assembly.

ISLAMABAD: The members of Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) staged a walkout from the National Assembly (NA) on Wednesday.

Earlier today, Mutahida Qaumi Movement’s leaders protested, in the National Assembly, against the ongoing general price hike row in the country.

After a strong condemnation inside the assembly, all members of MQM boycotted the session and walked out from the Parliament.

“The limit has been crossed and if government fails to control the ongoing price hike then some other decision will be taken,” the MQM leaders said while talking to the journalists after the walkout. Trend Pk

MQM walks out of NA against fuel price hike

National Assembly witnessed another happening day on Tuesday with MQM staged walkout against the rise in PoL prices.
A furious Sherry Rehman asked the Speaker that who sent baton-totting rogues to her house while PML-Ns Hanif Abbasi proposed mid-term polls only panacea to all the crises facing the country. Sherry said that she has never been issued any show cause by the party, adding that she has never violated the party discipline.
The session has been prorogued till 10:00am tomorrow.
