Three NATO soldiers among nine killed in Afghanistan

KABUL: Three foreign soldiers and five Afghan civilians were killed in a brazen Taliban attack on a police base in the southern province of Kandahar, NATO and Afghan authorities said Wednesday.
The rebels set off an explosives-laden car before firing rockets and small arms on Tuesday evening, they said.
Afghan police backed by international forces fought back “and prevented insurgents from penetrating the compound perimeter,” NATO”s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement. ISAF did not reveal the nationalities of the troops.
Zalmai Ayoubi, a spokesman for the Kandahar government, told foreign news agency the car bomb was set off by a suicide bomber. Several other insurgents attacked the base with rockets and machine-gun fire for more than 20 minutes, he said. The attackers fled the area after reinforcements arrived, Ayoubi said.
Brigadier’s vehicle attacked in Islamabad, attackers flee
Islamabad, Pakistan: Militants once again targeted an army vehicle in Islamabad however all the officials in it remained unharmed but militants managed to flee the scene.
Police told that Brigadier Waqar came out of his house in I-9 One when terrorists riding on a motorbike opened fire on his vehicle. Luckily, Brigadier and his driver remained unharmed yet vehicle got damaged in firing. The attackers fled the scene and police surrounded the area afterwards. Police have found bullet shells from the spot.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: 2 Pakistan Army Soldiers killed in Islamabad Firing, Two Pakistan Army soldiers were killed by shots fired at their vehicle in Sector G-11 Islamabad, on Thursday morning.
Some senior government officials live in the locality. The high police officials arrived at the incident. The authorities have declared a red alert after the incident.
By some accounts were bystanders and the attackers fled into nearby streams after the attack.
Police began searching the area with search dogs.
