President greets Christian community on Easter
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari reiterated commitment of the government to continue to struggle along with Christian community for the rights of minorities and deprived people in the country.
In his message on the occasion of Easter on April 4, the President said, “I wish to congratulate whole Christian community inside and outside Pakistan a blessed Easter.
This day gives us the opportunity to act and think anew, both individually and together as a faith community.”
“On this occasion we must remember that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had presented the idea of democratic, enlightened and prosperous Pakistan and we are committed to work for promotion of social justice, human equality, national unity and religious tolerance and interfaith harmony,” he added.
He said, “It was vision of Quaid-i-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who founded Pakistan People’s Party by saying ‘We will build a society in which the old values of greed and advancement will be replaced by a common concern for the welfare of the whole community.”
“Moving ahead with these guiding principles in mind our government is taking all steps to ensure the constitutional rights of minorities including Christian community and we are committed to resolve their problems with wisdom and courage,” he added.
President Zardari said the Christian brothers and sisters are not only law-abiding but also loyal community and they are proud of their tremendous contributions to the advancement and development of the country.
“On this auspicious occasion, I also wish to reiterate the commitment of the democratic government of the PPP to continue to fight along with our Christian brothers and sisters for the rights of all minorities and deprived people in the country,” he added.
He said Easter is an occasion that reminds them to reaffirm solidarity and to work hard for the interfaith harmony and for a prosperous Pakistan.
“Let us on this day dedicate ourselves to continue our journey along this road,” he added.
Parliament’s joint session on Monday
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari will address the members of Senate and National Assembly at a joint sitting of the Parliament, convened on April 5.
Under the Constitution, the President addresses the joint sitting on completion of one year of the government in power and start of the next year of Parliament.
This time the Presidential address has been delayed due to ongoing sessions of both the Houses and deliberations of Constitutional Committee to prepare the proposals for 18th amendment in the Constitution.
National Assembly and Senate sessions were prorogued Friday after Chairman of Constitutional Reforms Committee, Senator Raza Rabbani presented the recommendations prepared by representatives of all political parties after nine-month mammoth deliberations.
With completion of previous year and the start of each year, the President overview the performance of the government during last year and propose more measures and guidelines to the government for next year to bring about positive changes in the lives of masses.
The President touches almost every area of performance and fulfills his constitutional responsibilities to guide the government for improvement and initiating new projects for welfare of the country and the people.
Besides the members of both the Houses, figures like Governors, Chief Minister, political leaders, Services Chiefs, Federal Secretaries, diplomats and other important people are invited to witness the session proceedings.
The joint sitting is held in National Assembly building and proper security arrangements are assured and special invitation cards are issued to the participants.
It is appreciable that democratically elected government ensures fulfillment of constitutional requirements and President addresses the joint sitting on completion of the previous and advent of new parliamentary year of the government.

Nation to celebrate Eid with religious fervour

Lahore, Pakistan : – Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated throughout the country, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday with great religious fervour and festivity, marking the culmination of the holy month of Ramadan.
Eid-ul-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal Al-Mukarram and is one of the greatest Islamic festivals. The faithful will wear clean clothes and offer Eid prayers at mosques, ‘Eidgahs’ and open places across the country.
On the occasion, special prayers would be offered for the progress and prosperity of the country, unity of the ‘Ummah’, solution of their problems and liberation of Muslim territories, including occupied Kashmir.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani have congratulated the nation on the auspicious occasion of Eid.
In the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the ‘Eid’ congregations would be held at more than 300 places.
In Islamabad, the biggest congregation would be held at the grand Faisal Mosque at 9:00 AM, where the high-ups of the government will also offer Eid prayers. In Rawalpindi, the biggest Eid congregation would be held at the historic Liaquat Bagh at 9:45 AM.
Following the Eid prayers, Muslims will spend their time feasting with family and friends and feeding those who are less fortunate. Sweets and other special dishes would be prepared for serving the guests. People will also exchange gifts on the occasion.
The government has declared Eid holidays from September 21 to 23 and paid advanced salaries to employees for enabling them to meet their Eid expenses.
On this occasion, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited has also offered a special package on Eid days to encourage people to exchange Eid greetings with their near and dear ones.
The Radio and Television channels have chalked out a series of special programmes on the occasion of Eid while newspapers will publish special supplements, highlighting the significance of the day.
