A British newspaper has claimed that the new Al-Qaeda chief Saif Al-Adel will avenge Osama Bin Laden’s death with a major terrorist attack in London.
According to the Taliban, London is the backbone of Europe’s economy hence it must be destroyed.
In response to the terrorist threat, security has been beefed up in the city. For the first time in history, British Transport Police have been given the authority to carry weapons on the London’s trains and stations.
NEPRA approves reduction of 9 paisas per unit in power tariff

NICL Case: FIA directs to cease directorship of accused
FIA has directed Commerce Secretary to cease the directorship of the accused in NILC case. The process of Moonis Ilahi’s arrest will start tomorrow, trendpk.com reported on Thursday.
As per details, FIA has directed Secretary Commerce to cease the directorship of all accused in NICL case. Meanwhile the FIA maintained that there is no chance of Moonis’s coming back to Pakistan who is wanted in NICL case, after which the authority has contacted Interpol to arrest him. FIA authorities further disclosed that Interpol has been formally informed that the Red Warrants of Moonis have been collected and the process of his arrest will be started tomorrow.
Karachi not to get a single unit from Turkish plant: KESC

KARACHI: Karachi will not get a single unit of electricity from the recently-obtained Turkish Rental Power Plant, revealed KESC chief Tabish Gohar.
According to Mr. Gohar, not a single unit of electricity will be added to KESC’s supply through the Turkish plant.
Denying issues of payments, he said that Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) doesn’t have any gas to supply.
He said that a new power plant of 560MW will start operation by 2012.
“KESC is converting its power generation units on coal at the cost of $120 million,” he said.
“We have requested National Electricity Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to raise the power tariff by 8 paisas to generate resources for the conversion.” Trend Pk
Jehangir opposes CJ’s sole discretion to name judges

ISLAMABAD: Noted human rights activist and President of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Asma Jehangir says that the Chief Justice (CJ) should not have the sole authority to recommend names for judges in the Judicial Commission.
Speaking at a seminar here on Tuesday, she said two senior judges involved in the Judicial Commission should also have the authority to recommend names for the appointment of judges.
The SCBA chief said that no relative of the commission’s members should be considered.
“If any member feels that his relative is competent, he should first voluntarily surrender his membership,” she advised.
“Although I am in favor of cases of public litigation, suo motu notices should not be taken on a daily basis.”
She further said that a proper method should be adopted for suo motu notices.

British intelligence promoted Taliban impostor: report

KABUL: British intelligence agents were responsible for promoting an impostor who they believed was a senior Taliban commander key to the Afghan peace process, the Times newspaper reported Friday.
Intelligence agents paid the man several hundred thousand dollars, convinced he was a senior commander with the authority to negotiate with senior American and Afghan officials on behalf of the insurgents.
It is now believed that he was either a minor Taliban figure or simply a con-man.
A senior Afghan government official told the newspaper: “British intelligence was naive and there was wishful thinking on our part.”
British intelligence agency MI6 believed it had contacted Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour, an ex-Taliban government minister and second to Mullah Omar in its leadership. They flew him to Kabul on numerous occasions.

ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved Rs. 0.70 per unit reduction for Karachi Electric Supply Corporation’s (KESC) power tariff.
According to details, NEPRA conducted hearing of an application from KESC in Islamabad on Wednesday.
After completion of the arguments from all stakeholders, NEPRA approved reduction on fuel adjustment basis for the month of September and on quarterly review basis for the months of July to September.
A reduction of Rs.0.18 has been made on the fuel adjustment basis and Rs. 0.52 on the quarterly review basis. Trend Pk
Plane crash in Karachi kills 21

KARACHI: A privately-owned aircraft belonging to an oil company crashed Friday soon after taking off from Karachi Airport, killing all 21 people aboard.
The plane crashed near a residential area in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Town at 7:13am.
Pervez George, a spokesman for Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority, said the aircraft crashed due to a technical fault soon after taking off.
Speaking to journalists at the site of the crash, Lt. Colonel Noor Alam said: “”The plane has been destroyed.”
“The dead bodies are burned beyond recognition. It could not be recognized whether they are men or women. We don’t know nationalities.”
“All people aboard the plane have died,” he said.

LDA guards get unruly with Dunya TV team; CM takes notice
In an unfortunate incident, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) security guards inflicted torture on the Dunya News team who sustained severe injuries on Friday.
Reportedly, a Dunya News producer present at LDA building tried to stop the guards who were thrashing a woman who was an ex-employee of the Authority and came there with a Lahore High Court order for redressal of some of her grievance, the details of which remained unknown till the filing of this report.
But the unruly guards thrashed Dunya News producer, a lady reporter and broke the cameras on covering the event.
When Dunya TV aired the whole episode, the police machinery swung into action and rushed the spot with IGP Tariq Saleem Dogar assuring arrest and penalty of the accused at the earliest.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sahrif also took notice of the issue and ordered probe.

Clinton urges Arabs to give more money to Palestinians

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday urged Arab countries to offer greater financial support to the Palestinian Authority.
“It takes more than plans and commitments to support making the state of Palestine a reality,” Clinton told the annual dinner of the American Task Force on Palestine, a pro-Palestinian group which calls for a Palestinian state.
The chief US diplomat paid tribute to the Palestinian Authority’s efforts, saying it needs a “larger, steadier, and more predictable source” of financial support.
The United States and the European Union are the authority’s main donors.
“But the broader international community, including many Arab states, can and should provide more financial support,” Clinton said.
