Hakimullah Mehsud Is Still Alive
Pakistani Taliban’s new leader met with reporters in the country’s tribal areas for the first time since winning control of the militants and vowed to retaliate against the U.S. and Pakistan for drone attacks along the Afghan border, American news agency said.

The appearance by Hakimullah Mehsud ended any speculation that he was killed in a leadership battle within the militant group sparked by the August slaying of his predecessor Baitullah Mehsud in a missile strike.
Mehsud, flanked by other Taliban commanders in a show of unity, spoke to a small group of reporters Sunday on condition the interview only be published Monday.
Mehsud said his group would avenge the killing of Baitullah Mehsud and strike back at Pakistan and the U.S. for the increasing number of drone attacks in the tribal areas along the border with Afghanistan.
As part of the offensive against the Taliban leadership, Mehsud’s brother, Kalimullah, was killed last month. Analysts say the group is struggling to regroup from the attacks on its leaders. Pakistani officials had speculated that Hakimullah had been killed in a recent shootout.
Mehsud accused Pakistan of doing the bidding of the West and pledged to bring Islamic rule to the country.

HYDERABAD: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Syyed Sunday said former President Gen (rtd) Pervez Musharraf left the country as a result of a deal, so he would not return in the near future.
Talking to media after Iftar-dinner organized by PML-Q here, he said Pakistan cannot afford the politics of reprisal at this point in time.
Mushahid also ruled out the trial of Pervez Musharraf under Article-6 of the constitution.
Lashing out at the government decision of dismantling Local Bodies governments, the PML-Q leader said 85000 people were removed with a single stroke of pen, challenging if the government is not frightened, it should venture into holding LB polls.
Earlier talking to journalists at the residence of Sindh Tarraqi Pasand Party Chief Dr Qadir Magsi, Mushahid said Sindh people are exasperated on issues including Kalabagh Dam and water.
‘It is we who are to solve the issues troubling Pakistan; US President Obama will do nothing about it,’ he maintained.
Earlier addressing a reception in Tando Sain Dad, Mushahid said the people of Sindh still favour PML-Q; accordingly, the party would lead the next polls.

Taliban’s Clashes Updates
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Fighters from the Abdullah Mehsud militia have vowed to diminish Baitullah Mehsud group from Waziristan tribal belt, saying that the fighters from the recently-slain Taliban leader’s group were killing innocent people.
Abdullah — who was killed by security forces two years ago — and Baitullah are not related. They come from different subtribes of the Mehsud, the major clan in Waziristan.
“(Baitullah) Mehsud’s fighters are killing the common men,” Baz Mohammed, a top commander of Abdullah Mehsud group flanked by heavily armed fighters, told a US news agency.
Last July, a Baitullah loyalist assassinated the group’s former leader, Qari Zainuddin, as he slept in a room in the headquarters. Mohammed was shot four times in the leg in the attack and now walks with crutches. The attack left two bullet holes in the wall of the room.
“Yes, we will take revenge,” Mohammed said. “If we don’t, what is the point of our group?”
Mohammed and others said they supported attacks inside Afghanistan, but that attacking the Baitullah group was their priority goal at the moment.
“Where people are suffering from oppression, we have to fight. That is God’s order,” Mohammed said.
They declined to answer when asked whether foreign al-Qaida militants should be given sanctuary in the tribal regions — a major concern of the West, which fears the area remains an international terrorist hub.
One fighter, Abdullah Haq, said he used to belong to the Pakistani Taliban but left last year in a disagreement over attacks on targets inside Pakistan. On his cell phone, he keeps pictures of captured Baitullah men — including two bound and gagged prisoners he said the group had executed last week after taking them to the tribal regions.
