New York Yankees Active Roster MLB Diary 2010
The New York Yankees are a professional baseball team based in the borough of the Bronx, in New York City, New York and are a member of Major League Baseball’s American League East Division. One of the American League’s eight charter franchises, the club was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1901 as the Baltimore Orioles, and moved to New York City in 1903, becoming known as the New York Highlanders before being officially renamed the “Yankees” .
The Journal provides minute-by-minute analysis of the Boston Red Sox’s 9-7 victory over the New York Yankees in tonight’s Major League Baseball regular-season opener at Fenway Park. Guest blogger Nando Di Fino offers commentary on the game and the YES telecast.
The 2010 Major League Baseball season begins tonight the way it should every year: with the Yankees and the Red Sox dueling it out in Fenway Park. We would have also accepted Giants-Dodgers and Cubs-Cardinals. The Yankees are preparing to defend their 27th World Series title with a team that is just a few tweaks away from their 2009 squad. Granted, at this time last year,
Cody Ransom was their third baseman and Johnny Damon was patrolling left field, but with some mid-level moves trades for outfielder Curtis Granderson and pitcher Javier Vazquez and naming Phil Hughes as their fifth starter they return essentially the same core group of players.
So pay no attention to that final exhibition game today between the Giants and Mariners, dangling above the real seaon opener on the schedule like a confusing, low-hanging fruit. Instead, re-read former Commissioner Bart Giamatti’s paen to the game, “The Green Fields of the Mind” and prepare yourself for the start of a new season with one of the game’s oldest rivalries.

Pakistan Lose 3 Wickets Chasing 438 Runs
HOBART: Australia set Pakistan a tough target of 438 runs for victory from just under five sessions after captain Ricky Ponting declared their second innings at 219-5 after lunch on fourth day in the third and final Test here at Bellerive Oval on Sunday.

Pakistan began their second innings with an uphill task but lost both openers for only 29 runs.
First, first innings centurion Salman Butt was bowled by Doug Bollinger for eight and later his partner Imran Farhat went for 14, caught behind by Brad Haddin off Peter Siddle for 14.
However, Khurram Manzoor and captain Mohammad Yousuf took the score to 61 before Yousuf was adjudged lbw off Shane Watson for 23.
Pakistan were reeling at 67 for three at tea with Khurram (17) and Umar Akmal (2) at the crease.
They still require 371 runs to achieve a record target for winning the match.
Earlier, Simon Katich succeeded in completing his ninth test century but in the next over, he was caught by Shoaib Malik at deep mid-wicket off legspinner Danish Kaneria.
However, Ponting missed his second century for the match as Australia lost three wickets for only 19 runs in a 15-minute period after lunch as they sent out pinch-hitters Brad Haddin and Mitchell Johnson in an unsuccessful attempt to quickly increase their total.
Ponting failed failed to become the seventh batsman in Test history to score a double-century and a century in the same match when he departed for 89 on the fourth ball after lunch. He tried to sweep Shoaib Malik and was taken down the legside by wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed and the umpire’s not-out decision was overturned on review when replay showed the ball brushed Ponting’s glove.
Then Haddin was run out for eight and Mitchell Johnson was caught at cover by Imran Farhat off Malik for a duck as declaration came with Michael Hussey unbeaten on 13.

Ravens Vs Colts Score
Ravens Vs Colts Score, Playing keep-away from Peyton Manning is always a priority against the Indianapolis Colts.
Holding the football and a six-point lead at Indianapolis in November, Belichick kept the Patriots on the field for a fourth-and-2 at the New England 28 with just over 2 minutes remaining. The first-down try failed, and Manning quickly produced a touchdown and a 35-34 victory.
The Baltimore Ravens hope to avoid a similar situation Saturday night in their playoff game against the Colts. Their plan is to deprive Manning of the ball early enough so that it won’t matter if he gets it late.
Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron has the personnel to make the plan work – especially against an Indianapolis defense that ranks 24th in the NFL against the run. In last week’s 33-14 rout of the Patriots, Ray Rice, Willis McGahee and Le’Ron McClain helped Baltimore total 234 yards rushing in 52 attempts.
The yardage the Ravens gain on the ground will be significant, but time of possession is even more important against Manning and the Colts.
“My favorite thing is to look up at the clock and watch it go tick, tick, tick,” Ravens defensive coordinator Greg Mattison said. “You know what? I can’t be a real bad coach when I’m not out there calling defenses, right? So when Cam’s running the football, I’m the most excited guy there on that sideline.”
Rice should be getting plenty of touches in the first half. Baltimore won’t entirely abandon the passing game, but establishing a ground attack is clearly a top priority.

Nfl Playoff Bracket 2010
Nfl Playoff Bracket 2010, The 2010 AFC Playoff brackets are finally set. It seemed to take forever to figure out who would be in the 2010 AFC Playoff brackets, but with the close of week 17 in the NFL schedule finally comes the final team stamping their passport into the 2010 NFL Playoffs. It took all the way into the Sunday night game on NBC because the New York Jets controlled their own destiny.
All the Jets needed to do was beat the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday night and they would clinch the second AFC Wild Card slot. Earlier in the day it was the Baltimore Ravens that clinched the first AFC Wild Card slot, and it put even more pressure on New York to either win or go home at the end of the night. Yet another season also ended with Denver falling flat in the last month of the season, and maybe the analysts should talk more about that, and less about the Dallas Cowboys.
The top two seeds had already been decided before coming into the week 17 games. Indianapolis had clinched the #1 seed with the San Diego Chargers nailing down the #2 seed last week. That left the #3 and #4 seeds to be decided between the Cincinnati Bengals and the New England Patriots, and for the two wild card slots to be determined by a group of five teams that all had a very strong shot at them.
There were actually seven teams still able to qualify for one of those wild card slots coming into Sunday, but one by one the teams started to fall as the week 17 schedule played out. When Baltimore won their game it limited even more what other teams could hope for, but with Houston and Pittsburgh both pushing their records to 9-7 they had been hoping for a miracle.
New England won the tie-breaker over Cincinnati to decide the #3 seed in the 2010 AFC brackets, and that meant the schedule would favor New England if the two ended up meeting in the AFC Championship Game. With New York way ahead of Cincinnati already, it is almost a done deal that the AFC Playoff brackets are now set. Barring a late game come-back by the Bengals the seeding is as follows.
The New York Jets win the tie-breaker with Baltimore to take the first wild card slot and the #5 seed as the AFC Playoffs get ready to start on Saturday, January 9th.
