Cricket: Coach Khan favours DRS system

 

Simon Taufel of Australia, one of the best umpires in the world, had three of his decisions overturned by the television umpire on the first day of the third and final test between Pakistan and England on Friday.

 

Pakistan s Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali and England s Eoin Morgan all had to walk back to their changing rooms after Taufel initially ruled in their favor.

 

Khan says, “one bad decision can change the whole scenario … so I am totally in favor of this DRS system.”

 

Khan also believed that technology is “improving a lot,” and he would have loved having the system in place when he was an opening batsman for Pakistan in the 1970s-80s.

Adiala prisoners involved in various attacks: Agencies

According to the report of sensitive agencies received by News Trends, the prisoners , taken into custody by sensitive agencies from Adiala Jail, are involved in attacks on GHQ, Hamza camp and Kamra airbase.

 

These prisoners also threatened Superintendent Adiala Jail, hounorable judges, and their families, however, the court freed them due to insufficient evidence, the report said.

 

It is said in the report that 4 out of 11 arrested prisoners died naturally whose dead bodies were handed over to their families.
 

Shahbz writes to PM Gilani on loadshedding

 

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has written a letter to Prime Minister Syed Yosuf Raza Gilani demanding equal sharing of energy shortages across all provinces.

 

In a letter, Punjab CM said that there is a complete closure of gas industry in Punjab since December 25, 2011 in addition to electricity load shedding of 6 to 18 hours.

 

He complained that the issue of LNG import and the establishment of LNG Terminal have been allowed to linger over the last four years.

 

Shahbaz demanded complete ban on establishment or relocation of CNG stations. He added that Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline should be taken up on war-footing.

Martin Scorsese receiving a 3D distinction for “Hugo” – AWARDS ALLEY

TrendPK.com: Martin Scorsese finally took the technological plunge in 2011, shooting his film-preservation fantasy “Hugo” in 3D. For his efforts, the director’s about to rewarded.

The International 3D Society announced that it will present Scorsese with the Harold Lloyd Award for artistic and technical achievement in 3D. The irony being that Scorsese uses a sequence from Lloyd’s “Safety Last!” during a crucial moment in “Hugo,” so the award couldn’t be more appropriate.

“Marty Scorsese has embodied Harold Lloyd’s vision and passion for captivating movie fans around the world for his entire career,” said Suzanne Lloyd, Lloyd’s granddaughter and chairman of Harold Lloyd Entertainment, who will make the presentation. “With ‘Hugo,’ he has shared his love of filmmaking and filmmakers, in 3D, which would also have thrilled Harold.”

The award will be presented at the Society’s Creative Arts Awards ceremony, Feb. 1 at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Britney Spears allegedly planning a summer wedding

Kabul demands more US pressure on Pakistan

The Kabul government on Saturday demanded that Washington increase pressure on Pakistan to act against insurgents using its soil to attack Afghanistan, saying Afghans were running out of patience.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai held talks with US regional envoy, Marc Grossman, in Kabul just days after President Barack Obama warned Pakistan there were “some connections” between its intelligence services and extremists.

“The Afghan president asked Grossman to put more pressure on Pakistan so that future meetings with them should bring a positive result,” one official at the presidential palace said on condition of anonymity.

Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, long mired in distrust, have recently deteriorated with Kabul alleging that the murder of its peace envoy Burhanuddin Rabbani was hatched in Pakistan and carried out by a Pakistani.

Kabul accused Islamabad of hindering the investigation and also claimed to have foiled an alleged plot  in Pakistan to assassinate Karzai.

The palace quoted Grossman as promising that the United States will “continue putting pressure on Pakistan to take practical steps forward”.

Karzai said further meetings with Pakistan “should bring positive results, because after all these suicide attacks and terrorism the people of Afghanistan are losing thier patience,” added the statement.

US embassy spokesman Gavin Sundwall said that Grossman was on a tour of the region to discuss preparations for international conferences on Afghanistan s future in Istanbul and Bonn later this year.

“That s what he met President Karzai about this morning,” Sundwall said.

Washington has stepped up calls on Islamabad in recent weeks to break ties with the Al-Qaeda linked Haqqani network, blamed for last month s 19-hour siege on the US embassy in Kabul.

On Thursday, Obama accused Pakistan of “hedging its bets” in “having interactions with some of the unsavory characters who they think might end up regaining power in Afghanistan” after US-led foreign troops leave.

“And there is no doubt that there s some connections the Pakistani military and intelligence services have with certain individuals that we find troubling,” he added.

Islamabad denies links between the Haqqanis and its intelligence services.

Obama’s Uncle arrested

Look who’s back! President Barack Obama‘s long-lost uncle Onyango Obama (A.K.A. ”Uncle Omar“) has been arrested for drinking and driving just outside of Boston and has also been detained as an illegal immigrant.

The elder Obama, 67, was arrested outside the Chicken Bone Saloon in Framingham, Massachusetts at 7:10 p.m. EDT on August 24, 2011. According to police, he almost crashed his Mitsubishi SUV into a police car, then insisted the officer should have yielded to him.

Uncle Omar reportedly blew a 0.14 on his breathalyzer test, which is above the state limit of 0.08.

Obama was charged with DUI and driving to endanger, as well as failing to use a turn signal. He was then detained as an illegal immigrant due to the fact that the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement has an outstanding warrant for him because he was previously ordered deported to Kenya.

In his 1995 memoir, “Dreams of My Father”, President Obama refers to “Uncle Omar” as “the uncle who had left for America 25 years ago and had never come back”.

Obama pleaded not guilty at his remand hearing, but was held in custody due to the immigration warrant.
