Putting to rest all the speculation behind the producers of Sudhir Mishra’s dream project Mehrunissa, Nikhil Advani’s Emmay Entertainment Private Limited (Emmay) and DAR Motion Pictures, today announced that they have joined hands, coming together to produce and present this project.

On producing Mehrunissa, Arun Rangachari, Chairman, DAR Capital Group, says, “Mehrunissa is today among one of the most anticipated movies within the industry being propelled and helmed by some of the best in the business. This apart, the movie perfectly matched our sensibilities of what we would define as good commercial cinema and we had absolutely no hesitation partnering in this project. It is an honour to be part of a project of this stature.”

Set in the beautiful locales of Lucknow, Mehrunissa is a romantic drama with light hearted moments that track the enmity of two bitter rivals and their past bromance. Alternating between the present and the past the story deals with their actions when the love of their life returns to their world.

Commenting on his association with DAR, Nikhil Advani says, “Mehrunissa is a project that is very close to all our hearts. Being one of the most interesting and challenging films coming out of our banner this year meant that it was essential that our partner’s sensibilities, vision, values, etc. were completely in sync with Sudhir and us. Our decision to partner with DAR was in this very spirit.”

Director Sudhir Mishra sharing the same sentiment said, “Mehrunissa has lived with us for a very long time, and having a partner like DAR on board is an added strength. A project of this stature needs a strong foundation; DAR & Emmay provide exactly that & more”.

Singer Madonna dazzles in Super Bowl half-time show

INDIANAPOLIS: Madonna dazzled the Super Bowl crowd with a high-octane half-time show that started with an army of Roman gladiators and ended with plea for world peace written in lights.

The glittering 12-minute performance at Lucas Oil Stadium featuring several guest stars had legions of fans racing to Twitter to give their thumbs-up, with some going so far as to declare it one of the best in Super Bowl history.

“Now THAT was a halftime show!” said @michaelsette7 of Toronto in a typical tweet of approval. “All hail the queen. Bow down everyone, bow down!”

Entertainment Weekly critic Ken Tucker agreed, calling Madonna’s performance “joyous, unironic, open-hearted … She was both in full command and full of generosity towards her massive audience.”

With a new album titled “MDNA” out March 26, the 53-year-old Madonna teamed up with choreographer Jamie King and Canada’s Cirque de Soleil for the most-watched musical interlude of any major sporting event in the world.

Her challenge was to redeem last year’s dismal showing by the Black Eyed Peas, whose futuristic performance failed to impress spectators already put out by Christina Aguilera botching the lyrics of the US national anthem.

With muscular spear-wielding gladiators in gold marching onto the field, Madonna — styling herself as a Roman empress with a diamond-studded crown and kinky thigh-high boots — kicked off the show with her 1990 dance hit “Vogue.”

She then shifted into hip-hop mode, bringing out breakdancers — and an impressive tight-rope walker — for “Music” from 2008, accompanied by electro duo LMFAO who sampled their 2011 hit “Sexy and I Know It.”

Rap queen Nicki Minaj and irreverent M.I.A. then joined Madonna for the just-released “Give Me All Your Luvin” set to a “Glee”-like cheerleader theme, complete with golden pom-poms and marching band.

In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, M.I.A. — real name, Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam — flipped a middle finger to the camera while singing a four-letter word that is part of “Luvin”‘s original lyrics.

The image on the screen then scrambled just as briefly, suggesting that NBC television — the official broadcaster of this year’s Super Bowl — was caught off-guard.

For the finale, Madonna rolled out her 1989 hit “Like A Prayer” with crooner Cee-Lo Green, a black-robed gospel choir and the stadium illuminated with thousands of tiny lights, concluding with the words “world peace” set against the darkness of the field — and Madonna disappearing in a puff of smoke.

Half-time at the Super Bowl has been one of the most coveted gigs in American pop music since the late Michael Jackson performed with a 3,500-child choir in 1993, but hit a bump with his sister Janet Jackson’s infamous “wardrobe malfunction” in 2004.

“This is a Midwestern girl’s dream to be performing at the half-time show,” said Madonna, a Michigan native, prior to Sunday’s show.

Performing the national anthem before kickoff was “American Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson, with country stars Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert adding to the patriotic mood with a duet version of “America the Beautiful.” AGENCIES

More updates about Spencer Tunick Australia:- American artist Spencer Tunick, made an appearance today as another of his unique ‘installations’ took place at the Sydney Opera House, Australia. Although his work is actually photographic, he is in fact known more as an artist and this looks set to be another iconic work.

Tunick is famous for his group shots of naked people and this time over 5,200 people stripped to their birthday suits and posed for over an hour, embracing each other on the steps of the Opera House. Art Rush, a student aged 19, said he was happy he took part saying, “it’s not worth being inhibited. It doesn’t feel sexual, it just feels tribal”.

Tunick has a reputation for being shy although his photographs are usually taken in public spaces. Afterwards he said, “that last set up finally got done and everyone came together [in a] united, friendly kiss, a loving kiss in front of this great structure”.

Ides of March

March 1, 2010 by

The ides of March is the name of March 15 in the Roman calendar. The term ides was used for the 15th day of the months of March, May, July, and October.

The Ides of March was a festive day dedicated to the god Mars and a military parade was usually held. In modern times, the term Ides of March is best known as the date that Julius Caesar was assassinated in 709 AUC or 44 B.C. In William Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar, Caesar is warned to “beware the Ides of March.

Or civilian-military Ides of March in Turkey

Prosecutors arresting prosecutors. Dozens of active and retired military officers rounded up. Angry generals. Accusatory politicians. Breathless exclamations lamenting an “attack on democracy,” or the threat of “Shariah law.” And that was just the past few days.

If Turks have a hard time tracking the skirmishing amid the military, the judiciary and the government, outsiders and the newly initiated will find the intricacies of Turkish politics all but mind-numbing. So let’s take it slowly.

Much of the political hyperventilation of recent days turns on the “Balyoz” (Sledgehammer) Operation, an alleged military coup plot dating to 2003 that has been shaking the country for the last five weeks.

The plot was initially revealed Jan. 20 by the feisty daily Taraf, a young newspaper that has persistently focused on critiquing the Turkish military. The alleged plot to remove the Justice and Development Party, or AKP, from power by destabilizing the country included raising tension between Turkey and Greece in the Aegean Sea by having a Turkish fighter plane shot down, bombing two significant mosques in Istanbul during prayer time and staging an organized assault on a military museum by agents dressed as extremists.

Was this seriously considered once upon a time? Or were some disgruntled and powerless officers simply having a scenario jam session that no one should take seriously? In a nutshell, this is the debate that has ensued around many Turkish tables, coffeehouse backgammon games and student teahouses in recent weeks. Source
