Amir Khan celebrates engagement to Fayal
The ceremony was held at the weekend with a £150,000 bash at the Rebook Stadium in his hometown of Bolton.
Amir presented his fiancée with a stunning three diamond ring, believed to have cost £100,000, during the special ceremony, with the New York born beauty presenting her husband-to-be with an equally impressive platinum band.
25-year-old Amir announced his plans to marry 20-year-old Faryal earlier this month, with the couple officially marking their engagement with a lavish celebration over the weekend. 1,000 guests joined the couple to celebrate their happy news, amongst them were many famous faces from the world of sport including Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Ricky Hatton.
Faryal flew over from New York especially for the engagement party, with her family also travelling with her. The student will spend the next week with her fiancé in Bolton as he plans to show Faryal around what will become her new home as the couple have decided to start married life in the north of England.
The newly engaged couple were given a BMW 750 Li as an engagement present from the bride-to-be’s parents who have reportedly taken to the lightweight boxer in a big way, with student Faryal saying her family already treat Amir like a son.
For Amir and his new fiancée Faryal, their romance got off to quite a rocky start as the bride-to-be revealed she had difficulty understanding Amir’s strong northern accent and vocabulary, with the boxer using unfamiliar words such as “daft” and “innit”, when they first started dating.
However the pair managed to overcome early stumbling blocks and are now looking forward to their wedding which is likely to take place at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton, the same venue which hosted their engagement party.

Controversy over Raima and Riya Sen’s next film
Click above for more movie stills
The lovely Sen sisters, Riya and Raima, are caught in a dilemma. The bone of contention between Ghai and Ghosh, and by extension involving Riya and Raima is the film that brings the two sisters together, a wide-screen adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s controversial novel Nauka Dubi which casts Raima and Riya in a bold wife-swapping tale.
In the novel, as too in Ghosh’s Hindi-Bengali adaptation, the two women protagonists played by Riya and Raima never come together, not even for a passing shot.
Apparently, Ghai who has produced the film, feels the audiences specially in the Hindi belt would feel cheated if the two hotties are not brought together at least once in the film.
Says a source, “Ghai belongs to the hardcore commercial school of filmmaking whereas Rituparno Ghosh’s sensitivities are far more arty. This is the first time that the two sisters Raima and Riya are coming together. Even in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s adaptation of Saratchandra’s Devdas the two female protagonists, rivals in love, came together although their paths never crossed in the novel.”
However Rituparno Ghosh won’t relent.
Protests Ghosh, “Why should Raima and Riya come together just because people expect them to? This is material from Rabindranath Tagore and therefore inviolable. I respect Sanjay Bhansali’s work. But that (Devdas) was his vision and interpretation. In my Naukadubi the two women cannot come together.”
Raima and Riya seem to agree with their director. Speaking on behalf of both, Raima says, “People expect us to come together. But that’s the beauty of the story. Everyone else comes together, only we don’t. Besides this is a Rabindranath Tagore story. Ritu-da left it at that.”
Over to you, Mr Ghai.
The producer says diplomatically, “We’re planning to release Naukadubi on January 23, Subhash Chandra Bose’s birthday. Ritu has done a great job.”
An added dimension to the all-India release of Naukadubi is that it re-launches Bengal’s superstar Prosenjeet in Hindi. Naturally, Ghai would like to expand and extend Prosenjeet’s stardom beyond Bengal. For this he needs to make sure the audience goes home happy.
SLB incorporates original dialogues from Zeffirelli’s Romeo & Juliet in Guzaarish

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s on-screen chemistry with Hrithik Roshan got more passionate. To enhance the intensity between the Dhoom and Jodhaa-Akbar pair, Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB) decided to include material from Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 classic screen adaptation of Romeo & Juliet .The cult blockbuster had catapulted Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting to instant stardom and made Shakespeare’s romantic play a worldwide bestseller.
As a complementary referential source to Hrithik and Aishwarya’s intense mutual feeling for one another on screen, SLB decided to incorporate original dialogues from Zeffirelli’s film, forcing his efficient but flabbergasted team (many of whom had never heard of Shakespeare, let alone Zeffirelli) into a hysterical worldwide hunt for the material.
The producers UTV gently suggested that searching out and acquiring rights for the original Shakespearean dialogues in the voice of Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting from Zeffirelli’s film at this late stage when the film was approaching release ,could prove… a tad tough. But SLB was adamant. And with reason.
Explains the director, “I wanted a correctly intense reference point for Hrithik and Aishwarya’s feelings and conversations. I thought the sentiment of thwarted passion and smothered intensity of star-crossed lovers in Romeo & Juliet expressed my protagonists’ inexpressible feelings very well. So yes I’ve included dialogues from Zeffirelli’s Romeo & Juliet in my film.”
But why Zeffirelli, whose Romeo & Juliet came 41 years ago, when those Shakespearean lines have been done a million times since then?
Says Bhansali, “To me Zeffirelli’s version of Romeo & Juliet is the ultimate tribute to Shakespeare’s love story. So many times, I’ve wanted to do my own version of Romeo & Juliet. But one look at Zeffirelli’s film makes me feel I can never equal his beauty grandeur harmony and principal casting. Where I’ll find as perfect a Romeo and a Juliet as Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey?”
Was it easy getting permission to use material from Zeffirelli’s film in Guzaarish?
Laughs SLB, “Not really. We had to seek out people who were either long gone or in retirement. But I was adamant. This was my only chance to pay homage to one of my all-time favourite screen romances.”

You may want to clear some space on the DVR in preparation for Turner Classic Movies’ Dennis Hopper marathon.
Tomorrow TCM honors the actor by airing five of his early films: The Sons of Katie Elder, True Grit, Rebel Without a Cause, Easy Rider and Night Tide. It kicks off at 8 p.m. ET.
While the films are good choices, it’s too bad the two most popular ones — Rebel and Easy Rider — don’t start until 12:30 a.m., hence the DVR warning.
Hopper died May 29 of cancer. He was 74.The Durango trip is just one of many that I’ve taken recently. So far this year I have been to cities like Hermosillo, Caborca, La Paz, Puerto Vallarta, and Tepic to see other mineral prospective properties. So I can tell you this first hand: It’s time to completely disregard everything you’ve seen on TV and re-assess Mexico.
Today, Mexico has a modern emerging middle-class that is underpinned by spectacular economic growth and dynamic social change. Combined with ultra contemporary mining and tax laws that are inviting to any level of mineral firm, there’s simply no better place for mineral exploration right now.
