The move came just hours after the faction s Gaza branch fired rockets into Israel, Palestinian police said.

Police sources said troops fanned out across the area in an overnight operation which kicked off just hours after Hamas s armed wing in Gaza fired rockets into southern Israel, lightly wounding two children.

Among those arrested early on Sunday was Hamas MP Mohammed Motlaq Abu J heisha, the sources said.

“Between 100 and 120 people have been arrested,” Samira Halaika, a Hamas MP from Hebron said. “In terms of size, there has never been such an arrest operation on this scale in the Hebron area before.”

Mushir al-Masri, another Hamas MP who lives in Gaza, said initial information showed at least 80 of the group s members had been arrested in a move which he said demonstrated Israel s “criminal mentality” towards the Palestinians.

KARACHI: At least 22 people, including seven policemen, were killed and scores of others wounded on Thursday when militants slammed their explosive-laden vehicle into the Crime Investigation Department (CID) building near Chief Minister (CM) House in Karachi.

Therik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to police and eyewitnesses, a group of militants opened fire, starting a gunbattle with police before detonating their explosive-landen truck.

Several nearby buildings were also damaged in the deadly bombing.

Trend Pk’s reporters on the scene saw dozens of motorcycles and vehicles destroyed; windowpanes of buildings were shattered up to two kilometers away.

French police arrest 12 in anti-terror raids

PARIS: Nine people have been arrested in southern France in an operation targeting alleged militant networks.

Earlier three men were detained in a separate inquiry after their names were found on a man arrested in Italy in possession of explosives.

Anti-terror police say they found a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a pump action shotgun and munitions when they brought in nine people in the cities of Marseille and Avignon Tuesday morning.

The raids were on the orders of a Parisian anti-terrorist judge leading an inquiry into alleged terror plots.

But sources told the a foreign news agency that it was pure coincidence that they came on the same day as three other arrests, one in Marseille and two near Bordeaux, of men whose contact details were found on Ryad Hannnouni, arrested in Naples in possession of bomb-making material on Saturday.

"Spiderman" climbs Sydney building into police net

SYDNEY: A French daredevil climber who has scaled skyscrapers around the world was arrested in Sydney on Monday after climbing a 57-storey building and into the arms of waiting police.

Alain Robert, 48, who is also known as the French Spiderman, was taken into police custody when he reached the top of the 57-storey Lumiere Building in central Sydney on Monday morning.

Robert, 48, took 20 minutes to scale the 151 metre (495 feet) tall building using just his bare hands and without safety equipment, cheered on by a crowd of about 100 onlookers.

“It’s a wonderful achievement,” his agent Max Markson told reporters. “He’s the best at what he does. I’m sad he’s been arrested, but hopefully he’ll get out soon and we can have some champagne.”

25 suspects arrested in Gilgit, arms recovered

GILGIT: Police has arrested twenty five terrorists and recovered heavy arms from their custody during an ongoing operation in different areas of Gilgit, said sources on Saturday.

Security agencies have arrested four more suspects during their raid in different areas of Gilgit.

At least 25 terrorists have been arrested during the 3-day operation.

“The operation will continue till the end of terrorists and restoration of government writ,” said Deputy Commissioner Gigit, Asad Zamin.

He said that the people who are backing militants will also be barred in jails.

TOBA TEK SINGH: In an act of self-defence villagers killed eight alleged dacoits during an encounter, police has made no arrest even after passing 12 hours.

According to police, eight robbers came in two cars in a village of Toba Tek Singh and held hostage family of Abdul Sattar and snatched jewellery and other valuables.

Later, they entered house of Allah Datta and injured four family members upon resistance. Villagers gathered after bullets were fired and killed eight of them during an armed clash.

However, no villager has been arrested for interrogation despite passing 12 hours. Meanwhile, relatives of alleged dacoits hold protest demonstration outside Rural Health Hospital Chatyana and said those killed by police and villagers were innocent and traveling to Shor Kot to attend a panchayat.

A man has been arrested in connection with Saturday’s attempted car bomb in New York City Times Square.

Mr. Shahzad was taken into custody at Kennedy Airport, apparently attempted to flee, “said one of the people. Accusations against Mr. Shahzad, who had returned from a recent trip to Pakistan was not promulgated.

The authorities began to focus on him after they followed the car to its former registered owner in Bridgeport, Connect, which had announced it for sale on multiple websites. He paid cash, and sales were handled without formal paperwork.

The previous owner told investigators that it appeared the buyer was of Middle Eastern or Hispanic descent, but could not remember his name. It was unclear how agents fro m the Joint Terrorist Task Force identified him.
