PAF transports 30 boats to Risalpur
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Air Force is actively participating in the ongoing rescue/relief operation being conducted in the flood affected areas of Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa.
In this regard, C-130 aircraft of PAF have transported 30 small/medium size boats from PAF Base Faisal (Karachi) to PAF Academy Risalpur to be used in flood affected areas of the province.
Around 1000 IDPs have been rescued from adjacent areas of Risalpur and are sheltered inside PAF Academy wherein they are being provided shelter, food and complete medical assistance.
The entire PAF fleet of C-130 aircraft is on high alert for carrying out immediate relief sorties whenever required. In addition, two helicopters of PAF have been handed over to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to participate in the rescue/relief operations in the affected areas.
Additionally an MI-17 helicopter of PAF has also been dispatched from Karachi to Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa to participate in the ongoing relief operations.
US drone kills three in NWaziristan
MIRANSHAH: A US drone fired two missiles into a militant compound in northwest tribal belt on Saturday killing at least three persons, local security officials said.
The strike took place in Inzarabad village, 25 kilometres (15 miles) east of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan tribal district, known as a hub of Taliban and Al-Qaeda linked militants.
“Missiles fired from a US drone struck a militant compound in the village, killing at least three persons and wounding three others,” a senior Pakistani security official in the area told media on condition of anonymity.
Another security official confirmed the strike and casualties but said the nationalities of those killed in the attack were not yet known.
Train passengers escape explosion on track
QUETTA: A terrorist attack went in vain when some unidentified miscreants tried to blow up a railway track aiming at a passenger train, Chaltan Express, near Sariab Road in Quetta on early Saturday, however, Quetta-Sibi linked rail track received minor damages but all passengers escaped unhurt, Geo news reported.
Train service on Quetta-Sibi railway section is temporarily suspended while the repair work is underway, railway sources told media.
According to details, the explosion took place when Faisalabad-bound Chaltan Express was passing on a rail track in Darakhshan locality near Sariab Road located in provincial capital Quetta, but however, driver instantly took control over train and brought it to immediate halt.
Minor damages did occur to train but no passenger received any injury, sources said.
Divisional Superintendent Railway Quetta, Maqbool Ahmed Magsi, told Geo news, the train engine had passed by the site when the explosives went off but three train compartments were on track, however, no loss of life occurred.
Rescue teams have been dispatched to blast scene which will expectedly repair minor-damaged track within an hour, he claimed.
134 Pakistanis rescued from violence-torn Kyrgyzstan
CHAKLALA: First special flight of PAF-C130 has landed at Chaklala Airbase, bringing a total of 134 Pakistani nationals including students from violence-stricken Osh city of Kyrgyzstan in the wee hours of Monday, Geo news reported.
Another special flight will bring the remaining Pakistani nationals along the dead body of Ali Raza, a Pakistani student killed in racial violence in Osh, sometime on Tuesday morning.
Talking to Geo news, Pakistani envoy Tanvir Khaskheli said most among Pakistanis returned home are students and a little number of traders or laborers were also among them.
A rescue flight is due to fly off to Osh from Chaklala Airbase at 8:00 am on Tuesday, which will bring remaining 113 Pakistanis stranded at Osh airport, he said.
All Pakistanis are safe and sound and are in contact with Pakistani officials besides food items and other relief goods including blankets, medicines and etc. have been dispatched to them, he added.
Nato-supply containers torched; 5 killed
ISLAMABAD: At least five persons were killed while another four sustained injuries when unknown gunmen attacked Nato-supply tankers near Islamabad; setting as many as 30 oil and gas containing tankers on fire, Geo news reported.
According to reports so far reached here, in another bid to blow a hard strike into global efforts to uproot militancy, nearly thirty Nato containers, meant for supplying fuel and other logistic support for Nato forces resisting against Taliban in Afghanistan, have been torched as unknown assailants opened fire and set them ablaze in suburbs of federal Capital Islamabad late on Tuesday night, killing five persons and wounding four others.
Bizarrely, all the drivers and containers’ cleaners had disappeared from the incident scene when the ambush was carried out near Sang Jani place located in the outskirts of Islamabad, eyewitnesses told media persons.
Rescue efforts have been kicked off and law enforcement agencies’ have cordoned off the crime scene. Dead bodies and wounded men are being rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
Federal Home Minister Rehman Malik has ordered for magisterial inquiry into incident, ministry sources said.
Fire tenders have been dispatched to incident site to tame fierce blaze, as all containers are on thick fire, meanwhile, police parties are in pursuit of attackers, sources said.
According to police sources, miscreants were carrying heavy armaments while riding six motorcycles and two cars when they lodged onslaught.
Three dead, 10 missing in US gas explosion

WASHINGTON: Another massive explosion rocked the US oil and gas industry last night, with three people reported dead and ten missing.
The natural gas pipeline explosion in North Texas caused a massive blast that could be heard up to eight miles away.
Laura Harlin, a resident in the town of Granbury, said the explosion made a “huge rumbling” and sounded like a tornado.
Enterprise Products Partners owns the 36-inch pipeline, which is part of its Texas Intra-state system.
Chester Nolen, city manager of Cleburne, Texas, the nearest city to the blast, said ten people were missing after the blast.
The blast was originally thought to be an oil well explosion. An electrical crew was digging a hole when it struck the gas pipeline, an emergency services spokesman in Hood County, Texas, said.
Enterprise spokesman Rick Rainey said: “We have isolated that segment of line. Our crews have been dispatched to the scene.”
In a separate incident a crew drilling a natural gas well through an abandoned coal mine in West Virginia were caught in a massive fireball when they hit a pocket of methane that ignited.
Cyclone Phet floods 40 villages in Gwadar
GWADAR: Cyclone Phet inundated 40 villages of Gwadar, Minister for Fishery Balochistan told Geo News. Affected people have been shifted to the safer places, he added.
A total of 370-millimeter rain was recorded in Gwadar, Pasni and other adjoining areas, he said.
Gwadar and Pasni’s road link to other areas has been disconnected as the coastal highway has been submerged under water, he told media.
Gwadar has been partially flooded due to incessant torrential rains being caused by Cyclone Phet, he maintained.
Thatta coastal areas receive light showers
THATTA: The low-lying areas along Thatta – the coastal district, have started receiving Cyclone Phet-caused rains late on Saturday night.
All the coastal areas in Sindh have also been declared calamity-hit while the rescue teams comprising doctors, nurses and other paramedical staff have been dispatched to Thatta, Badin and adjoining areas ahead of Cyclone Phet, which is anticipated to wreck havoc in those districts.
Emergency declared in Balochistan coastal areas
QUETTA: The residents of Balochistan’s coastal areas including Sonmiani, Gadani and Dam where emergency has been declared in view of approaching Phet cyclone, are being evacuated to safer places, Geo News reported Thursday.
Talking to Geo News, Director Met Department Balochistan Saifullah Shami said the next 12 hours were crucial for the coastal areas in the province, though the cyclone was expected to downgrade in its run up to landfall here.
He added if the storm raged on with the same intensity, the coastal areas including Marah, Pasni and Gwadar could be most hit.
Shami said the rain weather system would enter Balochistan coastal areas including Gadani, Gwadar, Marah and Jiwani during the next 14 hours.
Disaster Management Authority Balochistan Director General Hassan Baloch said all necessary arrangements have been finalized in the province’s coastal areas; also, a control room has been established to make emergency steps and keep an eye on the developing situation of the storm.
He said two trucks carrying various relief goods including tents, edibles and medicines have been dispatched to Lasbela which would reach the concerning areas today.
CCPO directed to file FIR for recovery of MQM’s activists
KARACHI: A Judicial Commission formed to probe missing persons from Karachi met today to review 16 cases.
The commission directed Capital City Police Officer to register an F.I.R for the recovery of missing persons.
Chairman commission Justice (r) Kamal Mansoor Alam, Justice (r) Nasira Iqbal, Secretary Sindh Home Department, top police officials and officers of law enforcement agencies were present on this occasion.
In today’s meeting, the commission took up 16 cases and recorded statements of 16 missing persons.
In addition, a delegation of MQM called on the members of judicial commission.
On this occasion, Barrister Habib ur Rehman told media that 28 activists of the MQM went missing after arrest during 1992 to 1996.
